Question Easiest way to Convert the Stock Navi Screen to Play DVD's

I did a search on this and it is a bit confusing going through all of the posts.

Could someone please tell me the easiest way to convert the stock Navi screen to play DVDs in a 2002 TL-S? I am looking to have an Alpine DVA-5205 play the DVD's.

Thank you!

you need to create inputs so the navi screen can be used as a monitor. from the factory, the navi unit does not have inputs (video or audio rca) and it uses wires to feed signals. for this reason, you will need a decoder to take the common rca inputs (from video sources) and split them up into seperate signals so you can feed it to the monitor. this is what the avc-rgb1 is for...that's it, nothing else! too bad these units are discontinued and very hard to find. other brands also make decoders but no one has figured out how to do it.

Anyone here a circuit builder??

If anyone here builds electronic circuits as a hobby, can you check this out:

http://www.semiconductors.philips.com/pip/tda3566a_1

there is a circuit in the datasheet that converts composite video to RGB. Make that for us and we'll all buy you chips and beer for a year!! :wow:

hey austin i already went down that road i finished most of it on the program eagle version 4.01 i still have the schematics, but the only problem i had is finding the damn electronics.... i went to all the major vendors its a b!tch so i just gave up if you can find all the circuits first..i can just send you the schematic that i already did ready for print.....i just need to dig it up...but yeah...good luck finding the parts thats all i can say...

i use this search engine to look for parts with little to no luck

Send it all over...I'll convert it to Pspice and print out the PCB...I'm sure I can find the parts...it helps to be a comp. engr. . Email: Austin519@aol.com ...

Austin,

You could always build the whole thing on a protoboard or wire-wrapping board. Sure it'll take you a week to make just one, but no need to get a PCB made. I'm not sure, but if there are non-standard custom IC's on that board, then you'll need to find a way to get those and that might not be easy. I can see a whole host of timing problems developing from this too. If you're really up to the task, that sounds pretty darn impressive.

Honestly, can't someone just use a standard home video to computer monitor converter and use a voltage converter to power it off of 12VDC? I think this may be the best route if the Pioneer converter is not available and there are no other 12VDC converters either.

All you need for input is composite NTSC video.
All you need for output is Red, Green, Blue, Sync (Composite). Runs just like a computer monitor.

I'm actually not worried about doing the board. I have those nice little printable etchers...so I just gotta design it once, print it however many times people want it, and dump em all in an etching bath. Hell I had to design all the telemetry in our solar car...if I can't get this right I'm not worthy to be called a EE. So But we'll see

If I didn't have one already with my Navi already setup, I would gladly have paid $200 for it. Those without it don't know what they're missing.

Ohh we know what we are missing. I've seen bebbers in action and i must say i almost wet my pants. :wow:

But come on now, YBLegal was selling his for almost if not double the profit. Im sure hes gonna sell it, but I aint buying. Not for that price.

Austin, there is a chip, not sure if its discontinued made by phillips. Its in the post that I made earlier.

Josh, im pretty sure you cant just use a standard video to vga monitor converter since the vga monitor scans at 35kHz and the rgb signal only scans at 15.2kHz. I believe that most converters out there output the signal at 35kHz and I think that would fry the NAV screen. But again, I dont have the specs on the NAV screen so i dont know if thats completely accurate. But hell man, we're all EE, CS, and CE's up in here, lets make our own!! Or just let Austin make it and we'll give him money And free chips and beer for a year.
