CD CHANGER: TL vs MAXIMA

I made a deal with a friend with a totaled Maxima. Its a long story with a police car and stuff. Bottom line is he is getting $100K out of the lawsuit. Well he said whatever i can get out is mine. Its a 97 SE, so its preety much maxed out. Is their changer campatible? Also i took out the alarm he had, it was a real nice one. It is a DEI i guess viper 5xx or something like that. I know it had remote start and window roll down and trunk pop and stuff. Im sure the changer install should be easy but I can only imagine how hard it is to install an alarm expecialy one with remote start. Any advice on both of these 2 items?

Dave

I'm only guessing, but I would say I doubt it. 4th generation Maxima audio was all made by Clarion (including trunk/in dash changers). Acura head units are either Alpine or Pioneer (at least in the '02s). Without manually doing some major wiring or an aftertmarket harness I doubt you could get the head unit to send the proper commands to operate the changer. Even Maxima owners couldn't get an aftermarket changer to work with the Clarion head--you had to get the OEM Clarion one (heck, not even an aftermarket *Clarion* changer would work with the OEM Clarion head unit. How messed up is that?)

Im not totally sure but I think the changer is an alpine changer. I do know the speakers and deck is bose. Are those bose speakers any better than the ones in my TL? Is it worth salvaging those?

The speakers that came with the 4th gens, although sounding pretty good for a factory deck, aren't that good of quality. They're 1 ohm, which would make for a good match to the Bose set-up in the TL. I don't think it would make much of a difference, though, in overall sound.

And FYI, Bose doesn't make any head units, period. All they make are speakers, amps and EQ units. The "Bose" head unit in the 4th generation Maximas is made by Clarion. The only difference is the word "Bose" on the cassette door, to indicate that the speaker/amp combo is made by Bose. Just like our Acuras. It says Bose on the head unit but it's made by either Alpine or Pioneer. Unless he got a special Pie adaptor, I bet the changer is a Clarion.

BTW, i have a 2002 TL and the head unit has a Pioneer sticker underneath it. So that ends that part of the "debate!"

That's why I said it was Pioneer at least for the '02s (and now '03s). I'm not sure who made the older head units without the in-dash 6-disc changers (but I believe it was Pioneer then too, or possibly Alpine).

alarm

alarm install can be pretty involving. You need to take apart each door panel and string wires to the dash to do the auto window install. For the remote starter, you'll need an immobilizer bypass module. If this sounds familiar to you, then go ahead with it. If you haven't heard of this before, than I strongly recommend you get a professional to install it. A helm electrical manual would be a neccessity here.
