oem navi screen able to play standard DVD's?
A bit of a newbie question but......
From what I've read so far, seems as if the factory "DVD based" Nav system is unable to play standard movie DVD's
Is this correct?
I don't see why they'd do that. If they took the time to manufacture (and boast in advertisement) a DVD reader for the Nav system, why couldn't they just allow it to play movie DVD's?
So what are some of the options for the factory screen? Has anyone designed a way to use it with an aftermarket DVD unit?

LOOK OU A PLACE CALLES "STREETEFFECTZ" ON THE WEB AND THE SELL CONVERSION KIT THAT WIL WIRE RIGHT IN AND THEN ALL YOU NEED IS A VIDEO SOURCE AND THEN YOU CAN SEE DVD'S THROUGH YOUR NAV. SCREEN IT COST ABOUT 500 - 600 DOLLARS.
More info on playing video on navi
ok to answer your first question why would they do such as thing as to not allow dvd movies to be played on the navi system.... hummm well since in most states it is illegal to have a tv in the view of a driver i would say they did it for safety reasons.... now for the second question... what are your options... well like the people who responded before me... you can talk to ron@streeteffectz (he sells a whole kit that encludes the rgb converter, wiring and blitz safe audio adapter... ) or you could do like a couple of people on the lexus forum are doing and use the gex-7000tv... this option would give you a tv tuner and the abilty to add on other video sources... or you could try to find the discontinued pioneer rgb1....

I just installed the nav conversion this past weekend. I used a unit that I purchased for $400 in a group buy off the acuramdx.org site. It plugs directly into the nav unit and the 8 pin connector so you do not have to cut any of the nav system's wires. It has 3 AV inputs and 2 AV outputs as well as a TV tuner and built in RF modulator. There is a reverse wire input that, when connected, will power the unit on and automatically switch to AV input 3 when the car is shifted into reverse. I installed an accele vision camera bullet camera that I bought from Ron right above the license plate. Took most of Saturday morning and afternoon to install but the it was pretty straighforward. Now just looking for a DVD player. Any suggestions?
I got pic of the install. The unit itself is mounted under the Navi reader, back-up camera on top of license plate. I even have pics of the image on Navi screen.
Reverend,
I changed your topic to reflect the info we have in this thread. I hope you dont mind.

For someone looking just to watch DVD movies in their CLs + TLs the RGB1 is the cheapest way to go. For $280 & a DVD source (PS2, XBOX, DVD player, etc.) u can watch movies in ur car.
If anyone still wants one hit me up PM or EM.

Questions on how hard the install is? If it is really plug and play why so many wires? Also where is the power coming from? Also The final price with camera and the email address to buy the product.
Thanks
Thanks
install was pretty straightforward. All of the wires are for the antenae and the camera input. The unit cost me $400 in a group buy off the acuramdx site. I think it normally cost 495. The camera i bought separately for about 225 from accelevision
The camera comes with a mounting bracket that I attached to the rear metal bumper (underneath the plastic shell of the rear bumper). The camera is shaped like a shotgun casing and peeks over the rear license plate. It isn't noticable unless you look for it and has a great view of the rear. Silverknight did a stealth install with the same camera in the lower portion of the license plate

I used 3m VHB tape. . . the tape isn't your usual double sided tape. It is designed for industrial applications and does very well bonding metal to metal. Had to buy from an industrial supplier. Works great and is waterproof too.

Hey Guys
I'm new here and have been following the threads on the TL forum. I have an 02 TL-S Navi and want to do the Navi to video conversion. I cant find the RGB1 adapter (as you already know) but did find this at the link below.
http://www.converters.tv/products/c...verters/42.html
Maybe one of you TV gurus can check out the specs to see if it might work. If so I am willing to be the guinea pig and order it up, but I dont know about the compatibility and all that sync stuff (ill have to read up on it)
Anyone have any feedback on this???
Thanks,
Mark
