Question Car Alarms

This is my first post. I just bought a new TL and I am looking for a good alarm. I have heard that these things are some of the easiest cars to steal. I could spend up to $350 on one. Another question: Do Kill switches work? I have a cousin in Newark that told me to pop the hood and undo the plugs! not an option..Please help..Thanks in advance

I don't think that they are that easy to steal.
You might be thinking about the older model ACCORDs & TLs.
This is before the Imobolizer system (coded key) was put in.
The problem with the TL is no shock sensor & I don't think to many cars with factory alarm have that anyway. The older model ACCORDs were easy to steal pre 1990 thru 1998 I think.
People in NY &NJ area have been getting their headlights stolen from the TL/CL models but not the car. I think most people on here that get aftermarket alarms spend more than $350. People have added the shock sensor to the factory alarm. The price is cheap for that. Many of us such as myself have gotten top of the line aftermarket alarm system. Some have auto-start & window closer features. I did not get this but my alarm has thing s like a pager, self powered back -up siren (if thief tries to cut wires) It also has coustomize alarm sound that I programed to makes it more noticable. It also has built -in anticarjacking self recovrey sub system you enter a code each time you drive. If the code is not entered correct the car will shut down. The alarm will then go off with lights flashing & the car can't be restarted without the personal code this offcourse you know. The car can only be driven a bout a few hundred feet with out the code. This works in serveral ways. If someone carjacks you with the car on or if they take you keys & the alarm remote & this is why I got it. The alarm also has the normal sensors such as motion- shock. I also had a data port added so I can change alarm sounds or settings by a laptop PC. & the installer can identify any problems more easy. Everything is very easy to use,

Clifford or Viper. No question.

I have the Intelliguard 9000, FTM has the 8000 and they are great alarms.

Biggest tip is find a very good installer. A poorly installed top-of-the-line alarm is worse than a crappy alarm installed by a great installer.

I should have got the 9000 or the Avant Gaurd model also.
The only regret I had was not getting auto- start feature.
I can get it added for about $150. but I most likely will not.
The next ACURA I get I will get that put in but the anticarjacking is what made me get it.

I'm adding a shock sensor to my stock alarm soon to increase protection. Somehow I find it hard for myself to justify an aftermarket alarm, given the car already has one.

RE: Alarm

This is for FTM,

Where did you get that alarm with all those features? What is the brand of it and how much did you pay for it? Is it all in one or is it separate parts? Where can I buy the same alarm system as yours with all the goodies?

I have the Compustar 3000 which includes autostart ability. It has a 2-way LCD display on the remote so you know when the car is running, and will also tell you what sensor is detecting an intrusion should the alarm go off.
Its a very good unit and the range is unbeleivable. It works at least 1/2 mile away because i have tested it that far. I got the Canadian version (which has greater range than the US version since its not subject to FCC limitations) through another user on this website, as he is a distributor for that brand. FYI, The US versions of all remote starts are limited to 1000ft. because of FCC transmitter rules.

BTW, I installed one of those $78 ebay crimestopper alarms with remote start for a friend. (i was an installer for 10 years before moving on to other work) I can tell you the unit works great for the price, but bear in mind it doesnt have a 2 way remote so you have to take it on faith that you have actually pressed the remote start button long enough to get the car started. otherwise, it really is a phenominal deal for practically no money.

I have the Clifford IG8000 model. The anticarjacking is built into the alarm. Its built into most of the mid & higher models of the clifford line IG7000,8000,9000, Avant Guard 4 models. I paid a few year ago about $900.00 for everything I got. The basic alarm cost installed was $700.00. I got the extra stuff like pager & extra sensors + the data link & extra alarm remote. you can go to www.clifford.com Enter your zip for the dealer near you & also see the models & features under products.

Question

You guys have been a great help! Now, before I spend $800 for a car alarm I have a few questions: What is another brand that is comperable to Clifford? What price should I be paying for an IG 9000 Avant guard? Does any body have or know anything about the Clifford Millenia? And how do I find a GOOD installer?

I just brought a 03' tl-S. Is it possible to get a shoch sensor with an alarm? I'm considering getting the full alarm package, remote start, aubible, pager, etc...

Will the aftermarket alarm affect the passive factory alarm?
Please respond ASAP.

malik if you get an aftermarket alarm system the installer should leave the factory alarm intact. I still have the use of mine but it is only active when I put the Clifford in valet mode & use the key in the door to arm/disarm it. The factory alam then works like normal with the light flashing on the drivers door. When I have the clifford system on the factory alarm is disable. I use the remote control for the Clifford & never use the factory remote. I see you have the TL Type-S model. If you get an aftermarket alarm I think you have to give up the remote memory drivers seat function thru the remote. You can still use the switch inside the door for memory seat function this should be no problem.
