Question can I put resistor in series with sub woofer?

My Phoenix Gold amp puts out a sound like a fan running (the sound is heard thru the subwoofer) when I hook it up to my sub woofer. I suspect it is because it wants a minimum 1 ohm speaker, and the Bose subwoofer is 1/2 ohm. Can I wire a 1 1/2 ohm 25 watt resistor in series with my speaker to make it look like 2 ohms? I have plenty of power so the 6 db power loss is not a problem. Will speaker damping, etc be affected?

yea you could but you will only get 25% of the total power to the sub and it will probly be just as loud as it is right now
