Bose HU Probs

I posted yesterday that the HU in my 2001 TL wont play any cdrs. It either searches endlessly for a track or ejects the cd. The really confusing part is half of my burnt cds play fine and the other half wont play at all. I just got off the phone with 3 dealers and was told they wont change the HU under warranty b/c its not supposed to play cdrs due to a thickness problem. How do I get them to replace the HU so that I can play my burnt cds?

Good luck on that, I tried the same thing and they wouldn't replace my HU. They actually said "thats how its supposed to work". Others have gotten the HU replaced but it seems to be most common that the dealer tells you you're SOL.

I recommend biting the bullet and getting a new HU, that was the best money I ever spent on my TL.

I don't think that is right. If your car is still under warrenty than the radio/cd should still be covered. I've read others who have stated the cdr's are not at all 'thicker' than commercially produced ones. If that were the case, why are we spending $30k+ on a 'premium' automobile that can't even play cdr's when other 'lower' priced cars can?

Maybe you should go to sales floor and try out different vehicles or even test some of the older models. Just a thought.

Have you found anything in common with the ones that it plays or won't play? Are they the same brand/color? Were they recorded at the same speed (most of the time the recording speed is not the issue)?

Maybe you can find a good brand that works all of the time and stick with them as a workaround?

I had my best luck with Sony or Memorex disks and I burned them at slow speeds

While many people on here had luck with certain brands and certain recording speeds, I never found a type that worked especially well. I bought pretty much every brand that someone on here mentioned, tried all sorts of speeds, and I still had my HU take forever to change tracks. Really, just go aftermarket, you'll thank yourself in the long run (best money I ever spent on my TL).

vipvop, we had a similar experience with a batch of new Compaq laptops that we bought. They would not read burned CD's at all - not matter what we tried (different burners, etc.)

We contacted the mfg, and they sent us new drives. The firmware on the drives was a year older than the new ones - but it worked.

Your advice is well taken. Sometimes (when you exhaust other less costly issues), you simply need to replace the unit.

i agree with him, i too tried just about every brand, different recorders, different software, different speeds and none of it mattered, our HU is a POS! a aftermarket is the way to go!

I use the fujifilm cdr's and have yet to have a problem with any. I also burn them at the highest speed.
