Best Stereo Upgrade (keeping bose head unit)
i was just wondering what anyone recommends to upgrade the stock bose stereo...i don't want to spend an arm and a leg, nor do i want to gut the factory unit. i don't want anything aftermarket visible on the console. any suggestions?

that's the best thing to do. When a thief looks in your car, you may have like thousands of dollars worth of stereo upgrades, but they won't be able to tell seeing how your speakers are hidden by the factory covers, and your sub is in the trunk.
That's the route I will eventually go with mine. Besides I spoke to a guy who knows a lot about stereo's, and he mentioned to me that Acura has an excellent head unit. There's no need to replace it. He has a bunch of Alpine, Pioneer, and Kenwood head units in stock, and was like "your head unit is proabably better than all these"...
stick with the Acura head unit, put like rockford speakers in your front, JBL 2 ways in the back, and pioneer sub. The sound will be very rich....you also need an amp for that.

I was actually wondering if I could simply by the Polk audio DX-6 speakers, and replace all 4 bose with those? would this make a significant different in the sound?
would it completely sound like crap if I left the bose sub in the car?

YOUR ALL IN THE WRONG FORUM but here's what i have. I replaced all 4 doors with polk audio 6.5". I chose ones at Fries that where on sale for 39bucks a pair, i was a perfect fit and with a 92db rating perfect for the power of the stock head unit.
now the seperate facory bose EQ produces very high highs.so I find that i need to adj treble to a little above middle point instead of the usual full scale before. This combined w/ a home made custom sealed box in the trunk satisfies my need for sound, buts it's definetly a "mini-system" that's not going to rock THE world, just rock YOUR world.
check out the trunk.

LNDSHRK,
Take a look at the following link. It's my review of the upgrade process with vs. without the stock head unit.
