Hello, anyone have experience with an install of a Bel 985 radar detector?

I have an '03 TL-P and would like to install the Bel up near the rear view mirror with some type of hard wire to a power source (Homelink ??)

Also, does anyone know if the grid-like materail in the windshield (behind the r.v. mirror) would interfere with the detector?

I have a Valentine 1 and at first i wanted to mount it up top too, didnt care for it down by the dash, but thinking about it, sure you could tap the power of home link no problem, but after a little research, i found that the blue tint strip, and the grid garbage in the rear windshield will be a big problem, especially with Laser, and i have a hugh strip of 3% limo tint where my factory tint strip is... I tested the theroy one night, passed by a trooper using Ka, with the V1 near the dash, picked him up from almost a mile away, then i made a U turn, and tried it again, with the V1 up top (visor mount) and it didnt pick up on it till i was about 1000 feet from him. screw that!!!!

I would say just deal with the dash. The worst thing ive had happen with that is the cop that pulsed me with laser just made some smart ass comment.

the grid material will probably affect the reception. I have my older model Escort mounted just below the rearview mirror, and the wire goes up to the top of the windshield, winds around to the side (just push it into the gap where the headliner meets glass), and then is wired into the fuse panel on one side (forget which). It works great, and I just wrap the wire around the mirror mount if I take the detector down.

I had it the same way in my S2000 and it was very reliable.
