Blew Amp, Need Recommendations

If its not one fucking thing, its another with this fucking car. I was playing it wayyy too loud, for wayyy to long. It would normally turn itself off before any damage was done. But this time, it didn't make it. Its now making hissing noises, and sound is inaudible.

To make a long story short, I need a 5 channel amp that can push the following:

2 focal utopia 165ws
2 Eclipse Aluminum 88120s
2 Focal Audio6m (rear fill)

I'm currenly running 4 gauge wire.

Any suggestions?

Figured I'd post it here for some traffic before this gets moved over.

why a 5-channel? Why not get 2 amps? Be easier to choose from.

yeowwwwwwwwwwww..

that sucks man....but look at the bright side, now u can get a better amp

I thinkkkk u had the Soundstream amp with 50x4 +100watts,...

anyways, here is the PERFECT amp for you

http://www.usamps.com/products/inv/usa-5600x.htm

USamps, very good amp, EXTREMELY UNDER-RATED, low THD, built like a TANK.

I have two new USamps sitting here in front of me....waiting to get installed in my car

I would definetly get the 5600x, it seems perfect for you, and it will sound better than your old Soundstream Rub...

the specs on it are
75 Watts x 4 and 200 Watts x 1 into 4 Ohms

which is VERY under rated...i would suspect it would be more like 120 x 4 and 320 x 1

If you call USamps they will tell you the TRUE output of their amp.

i have a USA-600 that is rated at 600 watts x 1 @ 2ohms, but its REAL output is close to around 870 watts of CLEAN power @2ohms.

all in all, this amp looks pimp in chrome, and will power everything u have...much better than the soundstream u had bro

good luck,

for best prices on the USamps this place was ok, they have good service too
http://speedsound.com/ ask for Normad, or something like that...tell him Amir from toronto referred u...he might remember.

i got a IDMAX and my focals from him.

Jizzal is right, two amps would be better, i would go with a Tube amp for the focals, i heard Tube+focals sound AMAZING.

I just want to be able to pop in a new amp and go. Don't want to have to rewire too much crap. In other words, I'm a lazy bitch.

ended up going with the soundstream D’Artagnan 5.1 for dolby surround sound.

• 0.02% THD
• 6 Channels
• RMS @ 4 ohm 65 x 5 + 200 x 1
• RMS @ 2 ohm 100 x 5 + 400 x 1
• RMS @ 1 ohm 500 x 1 (sub only)

I really wanted a soundstream tarantula 800 watt 5 channel amp, but no one with any reasonable price had one available. Ohh well, fuck it.

fuck it, I changed my order to the tarantula I originally wanted

Etronics.com is the shit, no hassle at all.

RMS @ 4 ohm: 50 Watts x 4 + (sub) 200 Watts x 1
RMS @ 2 ohm: 100 Watts x 4 + (sub) 400 Watts x 1
RMS @ 4 ohm (mono): 200 Watts x 2 + (sub) 400 Watts x 1

It won't blow me outta my pants, but it'll be all I need.

EDIT: Stereoheads, what decides what ohms you are running at?

what determines what ohms you are running at is what speakers you are using... how many and what ohms each one is.
The Eclipse 88120.... lemme guess, a 12" DVC sub that has 2 - 8 ohm coils?

Thanks for the response SKWCL...

so here is one more quick question... since its a 5 channel amp... obviously the speakers have different ohm ratings...

how do I ask this...
say I have 2 speakers with 4 ohm coils, and 2 speakers with 8 ohm coils... will the amp run at diffrent ohm settings? or will it just default to whatever the highest ohm rating is (8 ohms)?

Are you using the 88120's that are 4ohm DVC or are they 4ohm SVC? Which speakers are you referring to that are 8 ohm? If I am not mistaken the Audiom 6 mid is a 6 ohm driver and the 165w's are 4ohm's.

The speaker's themselves and the way they are wired decides what impedance the amp will see (Basic explanation).

If you go with that Tarantula it would run like this:

channels 1+2 = 4ohms for the 165w's
channels 3+4 =6 ohm's for the Audiom's
and depending on which voice coil's your subs have you could either have a 4ohm or 1ohm load if they are 4ohm DVC subs or you could have either 8 or 2 ohm loads if your pair of subs are 4ohm SVC.

Hopefully you have the SVC subs and you can run them at 2ohm's since those subs are asking for 500w rms each. I would really recommend getting two seperate amplifiers as well each with it's own fused connection. This will save your amps from being fried in the future. Please for the love of god tell me that you have a proper fused connection to the battery for this Tarantula...

How much are you paying for that amp? If you are interested in a dual amp setup, my brother has this set for sale : http://www.phoenixgold.com/webfaq/M_Special.htm

Hope this helps. let me know if you have any questions.

Amir,
Hey buddy how's it goin'? I just wanted to tell you that I did not forget about our agreement . I will be leaving for CES this Thursday. I will let yo know the details as soon as I get back!

Ahh yes, that answers my question. Thanks a million. I have the 88120 DVCs though, not SVCs. I believe I do have the proper battery (optima blue), PG cap(dunno if it even helps), and fuse setup for the tarantula. Hopefully I won't blow it again. If I do, its back to the drawing board.

I got the amp for 529.99 + overnight shipping.

Well, I keep gettin dicked on my amp...just got this email

Dear Customer,

Due to an error in our inventory the Soundstream TR8005 appeared available, however we could not locate the product in our warehouse. We are sorry for the delay and the inconvenience your have experienced. We have contacted Soundstream but right now they do not have the item in stock nor an expected date of delivery. Please advise what you wish to do.

Thank you

Looks like I may have to go with 2 seperate amps..

All I should have to do is run a new + cable to the rear, get a new ground wire somewhere in the back, & splice into the remote, right?

This sucks, I haven't had tunes in the CL-S in damn near 2 weeks.

Are you interested in those PG amps I mentioned? You could wire it like this:

Outlaw 1845:

Channels 1+2 to your 165W's for 85w x 2
Channels 3+4 bridged for 500w x 1 at 4 ohms for your subs

Bandit 1895
Both channels to your Audiom 6's for a little less than 85w x 2 at 6 ohms.

Let me know. bso1@shaw.ca
