Battery/alternator drained???
Battery/alternator drained???
So I start my engine so I can mess around with the radio and tune the amps, etc. Then when I'm done I do the usual rev so I can "recharge" the battery or whatever the hell thats supposed to do. Then when I let off on the gas the rmps drop loooowww and looks like it will almost stall. Then when I saw it I revved it again so that it wouldnt go dead. And it won't happen if I rev then let off the gas gently..only when I rev and take it off right away. Oh and the light flickers sometimes during this process...
Is this due to my batter or alternator? Am I draining too much power . Thanks for any help.

It could be either actually...although the alternator should keep the car running just fine with the battery DISCONNECTED, there is a circuit that feeds back through the battery and works in conjunction with the alternator...if you have a multimeter you can check voltage with the car running at idle, and when you rev the engine.
You might also want to check your intake (if you have one) as you might have vapor in it causing a funny idle.

Hmmmm...I heard this odd high pitch noise coming from my engine recently. I brought it back to the dealer (still under 3 month warranty) and they told me it was the alternator. It works fine they said, it just runs loud, a high pitched loud. Its free for me to replace, so I'm obviously going to do it. But...that noise might be the intake???

If your lights flicker I doubt it's vapor. I think it's probably electrical. Tell me what kind of audio setup you are running? The battery is only going to give you trouble starting...that's really it's only purpose anyway. The alternator would be the next thing, or a short somewhere. But say what you're running, and if you know how much current you're pulling.

And you havea 1F cap? Hmm. If your lights are dimming...I'm not sure. Off the top of my head I don't know how much power those amps suck...hmmm. Maybe try a second capacitor. I'm trying to avoid saying it's your alternator. Does it just dim at idle? If so...it's probably nothing more than your alternator not putting out enough power at idle. A good quick fix would be to grab a smaller alternator pulley, so the alternator spins faster. These can be had from places that carry pulleys, such as UR, or you can call up the same people I had rebuild my alternator, Ohio generator, and ask them how much it would be to get that pulley from them.
