bass penatrating through the seat.

Last night when i was wiring my 4 gauge wire and had the rear seat out and the bass just sounds so much better. Then I look at the damn padding on the rear seat cushion that absorbs all the bass. What can I do to get more bass into the cabin. My box is to small to port and my woofer work well in sealed box only. I just removed the factory woofer and its just a lil differ.

Well unless you want to take out the back seat for good, you could get a better subwoofer/ amp combo. You could also drive around with the back seat armrest down, that helps a little also.

subwoofer positioning

Where in your trunk are you placing your subwoofer? I have a 10" JL audio in a prefab box, and I noticed with the box up against the back seat, there was almost no bass in the cabin. However, with the box centered in the trunk, the bass in the cabin is great, even with the back seat acting as a barrier.... this is due to combinant wave effects due to reflections in the trunk... try moving the subwoofer around to see where in the trunk it sounds best.

remove the stock sub so the bass will have a place to enter the cabin. Although i can tell you that i just finished the sub in my car last night (funny coincidence that i read your post today) and actually found the Bass was tighter with the stock sub hole covered and the seat still in the car. I have 2 10" stillwater C10 in a sealed enclosure. 1.25 cu ft/side

Lightbulb Subwoofer Placement

Before buying anything new, or putting factory subs back in, or resorting to other extreme measures, try the subwoofer in various locations in the trunk. Move it forward, move it backward, move it from side to side. I can't stress this enough!! Since the waves emitted are of such low frequency and high amplitude, especially in an enclosed space such as a trunk, recombinant wave effects are of the utmost importance! I wish I had an SPL meter to report the difference in results with just moving the subwoofer from up against the back seat 2 feet forward (backward) into the middle of the trunk... the difference is night and day! There is definitely one "sweet spot" in the trunk where the bass will sound the best, regardless of the size or power of the sub. You just have to find it. (I have the factory woofer in place and disconnected, my bass is GREAT with a single JL audio 10".)

errrrr, the only problem with moving the box around forwards or back is that you could maybe get a better response with the box in the middle of the trunk (dunno i never tried that) but then how are you gonna put anything else in there... a trunk has to also be usable as a trunk....

placement

Well, my box is a 10" JL audio prefab. It just sits in the middle of the trunk, it's not bolted down or anything. If I need to use the trunk, I just move it. It's pretty heavy and carpet-covered, so it usually doesn't slide around. If you want to semi-fix it in place, you can use velcro. In fact I bought some particularly for that purpose, but haven't applied it yet because the sub really doesn't move around that much while I'm driving.

Hey dnd, I recently installed 2 10" subs in a sealed box in my trunk. I had the same problem with them facing towards the back seat (no punch). Play with your box placment a bit to find something that sounds good to you. The way I have mine set up works great. Good tight bass without wasting so much space. Put your box in your trunk with the subs facing towards the back seat. Then just turn the box onto it's back your subs should then be facing up. This work great for me after adjusting the amp. good luck.

Also push the box all the way up against the back seat. This should give you some needed space.
