Audio Guys

So I'm learning little by little about car audio, I'm really getting interested in it, so i'm picking up alot of information over on car audio forum and just hanging out with people that know about audio..

Have any of you guys heard of RE subs, one of the guys on car audio forum said its pretty good and since my friend was going to sell me his Polk DB1040DVC for 45 bucks, he said the RE is better.

Have any of you guys heard pro's and con's about it, sorry for bein a noob over here in the audio section LOL

RE's OK. I didn't really find them exceptional but you probably won't complain.

For every audio guy, there is a set of brands he likes and will possibly recommend to you and everyone else. For me, it is Sound Stream, Acoustic Elegance, Tang Band, Phoenix Gold (older stuff), Vifa, Scan-Speak, Alpine X or F#1 Status series, Kenwood (at times.) Man the list goes for a while for me, I've tried a lot of great products.

You know, usually the install matters the most.

Alpine
Kicker

the basic ones that everyone knows but I must say my MTX I had I liked those the most.

I'd take the RE over that Polk, if ~$50 is you budget. Expanding your budget will net you a much better result. Mainly depends on your budget and your goals.

I wouldn't consider that an MT, Brian. It's using a Mach 5 SPL motor, so I'd more call it a Mach 5 custom...

I agree with fourth meal on Vifa and Scan-speak, they make some great stuff. I always liked Kicker Solo Baric for subs because they fit into small sealed boxes that don't take up much space and have a nice tight sound. The most important spec on an amp IMO is how low of an ohm load it can sustain. I used to have an old Punch 150 that could run fine at .5 ohms, which means that one amp could power a bunch of speakers with lots of power. The 1,000 watt amps for $50 bucks wont do that...
Best thing to do is listen to different speakers and see what you like, then decide on price.

I would recommend eD (Elemental Designs) if your looking for best bang for buck, and great SQ!!!! I've purchased many subs from them, they are based in Iowa, for my car, and my Home Theater....great prices, GREAT products! Never been dissapointed in any of their stuff. My wife gets upset when I'm watching a movie in the basement and her china starts rattling upstairs....

Are you going to at least upgrade the mid-bass drivers that add better highs? Adding 2 ohm after market drivers (infinity or JBL) 2-ways to go with the bose 2ohm amp will add much needed clarity to match the better bass. Adjust the voltage (gains) of the sub amp to the stock radio so that they match in volume and you'll have a nice upgrade. Good luck to you bro.

Don't be an ass bro. Read the post in full. When u swap the full-range drivers for 2-ways. They indeed will. Does that help clarify things better now?
