Anyone with a alarm/starter combo...

Apparently i posted this in the wrong forum before, my bad...

I'm just wondering if anyone has installed an aftermarket alarm/starter combo in their TSX and kept the stock functions like rolling all the windows down from the remote, and popping the trunk from the remote also?

I'm considering getting an a/s combo (viper 5900?) with the two way pager, for the added security, and the remote start feature in the winter. i think the 5900 series has 1mile range, which is definitely more than good enough for me, but I don't wanna lose the windows down and the trunk pop.

I believe the only other things that I would loose is the memory seat function (which is fine, as I am the only one that drives my car)

thanks in advance!

I haven't gotten one yet, i'm debating between compustar 2wfm900a/s and the viper 5900...

basically very similar, except for the viper runs on SS (spread spectrum) technology, and i heard bad things about the compustar SS alarm...

with your compustar were you able to keep any of those functions?

you will loose those oem features as you should no longer use the original remote; continued use may trigger the aftermarket alarm (ie, popping trunk). it may be possible if you always remember to first disarm the aftermarket alarm. otherwise, trunk pop is simple (install relay if one is not already onboard). windows will require the appropriate window module. why don't you check in with several alarm shops.

i did check in with all the local ones but they all seem to quick to say 'ya for sure, no prob' but it seems like they're just saying that to get my money...

noone seems to know if it's been done before or not, and noone seems to know what's involved in doing it...

so confusing lol... makes me not wanna get an aftermarket alarm...

I would recommend the Viper 5900, I have been using one for months now and I get about a 2 mile range out of it. It has a built in feature called comfort closeure that can roll the windows up when you press the lock/arm button. In order to do windows down you will need to get the 530T window module. It is cool because it will give you one touch roll up/roll down for all of your windows.

As far as trunk release it has the capability to do that also. And with the channel linking it can do memory seat.

But remember the best alarm is only as good as it is installed. So find an installer that does good work. Make them prove it. See some of his work. If they can't/won't show you their work, then they must not be very good.

granted I haven't messed with too many of the TSX's but i know on VW's and Older nissans that had the same window rolldown features, it was possible to make them roll down with out having to purchace extra parts. it all just depends on the quality and knowledge of the installer.

for the model that i bought (2wssr), it didnt come with the window option. you would have to buy a seperate unit and program it which would have cost extra, so i didnt want it. did the viper alarm include the window roll down feature or did you guys buy extra parts?

it sounds like a piece of cake because they do it all the time. your car is no different than any other car and most alarm mfr's take the time to work out the wiring for their dealers. just pick a viper alarm that has an option for trunk pop and an extra channel where window modules can be controlled. they have the 529t that does one window up and down OR two windows in only one direction; unfortunately, no one touch nor vent. however, the 530t is one touch and can be one touch at all controls if you run individual wiring. it will control two windows in both directions and vent; sedans require two 530t modules. conversely, pick a similar clifford alarm and add their smartwindows module (but the viper ones work too). higher models may already include partial window control.
