Amp Problem??
Amp Problem??
I have a kenwood 350w amp. pushin a 10in JL audio sub. the problem im having is whenever i play somethin "crunk" like some lil jon w/ lots of bass my sub will sometimes turns off for like 30-40seconds then kicks back on. i have my amp connected to my speaker box so either the vibration is causing the cut out or it gets too hott in the trunk because i've felt the top of the amp one time and it was pretty hot. anyone else know why i am having this problem?? its very frustrating, please help!
mounting it on the box wont matter. if you dont have a good ground it could shut off, or if it gets too hot the same will happen. If it is an old amp...the heat could get too it more, newer amps are made to run cooler and the heat doesnt get to them as much.
meaning....2 ohm stereo = 1 ohm mono and this is bad for some amps. running an amp that is not made for this like that will cause it to shut off. you will notice it when the bass hits...the amp will cut off, cause that is a point that requires more power and the amp cant provide it so it protects itself. in a nutshell of course
If that right? If you bridge a 2 channel amp that is rated for 4 ohms mono, then you are basically running 2 ohms stereo or 4 ohms mono. Running at 1 ohm stereo would result in 2 ohm mono. This is a nono for most amps. Please correct me if I am wrong.

i had the same problem with a xplode amp. it would be "over current" everytime it happened, i have no clue what that means, but hope that helped. i also know from physics I=V/R and I=P/V, ok, maybe im not helping =x, but best of luck.
Wiring Diagram
I had a buddy who had almost the same identical problem your having but the trouble was with how the other guys installed the amp. It was overheating under the seat, so we put it ontop of the box. He had an extended cab S-10. we rewired everything as well shaving the area down to bare metal where the ground was connected. Problem was solved. There is also a chance that your ohm load is killing the amp. Here is a wiring diagram courtesy of cruchfield. Just click on the setup you have. Make sure that you click on the diagram with the right amount of voice coils, either dual or single on each sub. Hope this helps.
