Amp For Jl 12w7

I am looking for opinions on an amp for the JL 12W7 besides the JL 1000/1. Comparable in specs. Around the same price range or less. Thanks.

Any other opinions? Right now it’s either looking like the Phoenix Gold or the JL.

Yeah I would go with the JL and also get one of the gain control knobs.

Actually with the W7 u should not use the gain control knob. If u listen to the W7 and W6v2 Vs other woofer you can notice that the JL already has a boost in the lower freq. That is what I was told my JL reps.

Either amp is fine. Get the PG if you want double the power of the 500/1. The 500/1 is build on a high quality standard. The PG amp feels cheap and doesn't have the kind of features the 500/1 has.

For an $800 amp, I'd expect the xenon to have better material (knock on the top of the amp, you'll know what i'm talking about). The first year xenon had major problems, unlike the tantrum that it replaced. PG has gone a bit downhill.

The JL does have a selectable 12db or 24db/octave xover with a frequency multiplier (x10). It also has a parametric EQ. None of these matter if you're going active though (at least before the signal gets to the amp).

P/G always had major wrinkles with their first few runs.
Xenon replaced the Titanium line which also had major problems during its first few runs. The Xenon amplifiers have huge potential to be a contender in the mid/high end pro-sumer market they just need to work out the few of the bugs that are still lurking. for now tho, my advice is to stay far away from them.

Arc makes an awesome amp!
JBL wouldn't stand up to any of the above mentioned amps, neither in SQ, SPL, or just plain old craftsmanship.

: If u want a good amp go back to the basics; look at were the amp is made, that'll tell u a lot about the amps quality and remember "designed" and "manufactured" are two very different things. Obviously Euro is the way to go but the US is making good product too, Korea seems to be in the running as one of the new Japans and China has gotten a little better in the past 5 years. If all else fails never forget the golden rule: $1=1watt (unless of course ur being hooked up or ripped off)

lastly: an 800 dollar amp is 1 that u should have for a long time so don't limit urself to just a couple options. If u don't know much about ARC u may wanna hold up on ur purchase and do a little reading, also look at Brax, Diamond and Audison while ur at it. but wile ur heads buried in that mag; try to caution urself away from those newer/smaller companies that put a lot into advertising pages and aesthetic design. That's usually a tail tell that their priorities are in the wrong place and or they're R&D team needs a bigger budget. [[{{{*ie. Audiobahn*}}}]]

Man, I always confuse PG amps and what their prodecessors were. I usually think that the xenon is the top of the line PG amp, therefore it replaced the tantrum. Kind of like how some people think that the TRU technology billet-series replaced the T-series, when it replaced the T-03 instead. You would think the Billet replaced the t-series

K so yeah...... Xenon is the refrence line such as the Titanium used to be.

Tantrum or XS Series was the mid level replaced by the Radial line

Thanks for the info. As far as the Xenon amp, I googled it for problems and some issues came up about its first couple of batches being made in Korea were messed up. But that was since 03 and PG's customer service repaired the amps in the good old USA. In Colorado I Believe. Anyways its still one of my choices because they seem to have fixed it. The reason for me not going with the JL right off the bat is because I can’t see myself paying $1000 for an amp. I want to buy it from and authorized retailer and right now the best price I am getting is around $700 for the JL 1000/1. So that’s why I asked what other amps you guys recommend. As far as all of your other brand recommendations, I know about all of them except for the ARC, but I did my research thanks to you guys. At first I was going to look at the Diamond amp also but I don’t think it’s on the same level as the 1000/1 just my. Oh yeah and I definitely agree on you about the JBL amp . But anyways thanks for your input.

ummmm yeah, apples to apples. the D6 1500.1 is far better then the 1000/1 in every catagory. And don't get me wrong I love JL "/" amps, infact check my sig I own the 1000/1 and a 450/4. but I'm considering upgrading to the D9 800.2 and 800.4.

D6 & D9 > JL
