Aftermarket Head Unit - Factory Sub

I have been looking at possibly replacing the factory head unit in my 2000 TL. The ones that I've looked at (at Crutchfield) all state that the factory sub will not work with an aftermarket head unit. I'm assuming that this is simply due to the wiring harnesses. Is there a way to connect the factory sub to an aftermarket head unit or are there harnesses available to allow this?

Thanks,
JSB

See this thread from last week.

I managed to successfully get the subwoofer working... sort of. Every time their was a break in the signal (power on, pause, skip song, etc.) it popped at full power. Less than ideal in my opinion, so after all that I ended up unplugging it.

Ditto. I had exactly the same results as jthorne--finally got it to work (by buying a $300 line driver), but the turn-on thump was deafening. (I'm not talking about a little pop you can ignore). I finally just bought a new sub/amp/box.

One follow-up. Discounting the fact that the factory sub isn't the greatest, could I still utilize the factory sub by connecting it directly to an AMP and bypassing the stock equalizer?

Hey jsbtn, I just got done doing this and I got it to work. From my understanding we could still use the stock AMP BUT it would be much easier and better to get another AMP to hook it up to the stock sub. I missed my bass so much until I got this done.

Shibar, so if I install an aftermarket HU I`d have to tap my LOC to another speaker?? Cause right now I have the LOC tapped into my subs wires, with stock HU.

NVM disregard previous post. I forgot aftermarket HU`s have the RCA outputs.

Try the vendetta 4.5. This might allow you to keep the factory sub with an aftermarket HU.
