Adding Tweeters

2001 CL-S

hey guys, i just purchased these for my car...
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ef=oss_product

and i believe they come with tweeters and crossovers which im new to. i took off the tweeter cover and there's no wires. i changed the speakers before which was easy because i just stripped the wires that was in my stock speakers and put them on the new speakers. but how the hell do i connect the tweeters/crossovers?

thanks for any help

Well, first we need to know if you are going to amp them. IMO, buying Type R speakers and not amping them is a huge waste. For tweets, grab small gauge speaker wire and connect it to the crossover, same procedure for the woofers. When everything is connected to the crossover you should run the third set of wires (Power) to the power supply which is your amp. The crossover distributes power and freq to the speakers.

Go to Best Buy and find a 4-channel amp preferably Alpine, and go with that. Ull have 2 channels left for playing around. Either put in 1 sub and bridge them or get 2 more speakers, and ur set.

Your tweeters should be able accept spade terminals or you can solder them directly (which is what I would recommend). Your crossovers should be able to accept raw wire with a screw to tighten them, as is the same on most amps. I also recommend placing the crossovers somewhere else besides the doors.

Dude, i usually just go to BB or FutureShop just to see whats out there (Out of the popular brand names) and then i go into further research. Thats what i meant. W.e everyone does it their own way i guess, for me, I like to touch and feel the product.

Ok so i havent installed my speakers yet because i have been replacing my tranny over a long period of time. I am about to set up my Type R speakers. my friend is going to give me his amp(did not ask what brand but know its 4 chan). Planning to amp 4 speakers(alpine type-r in front type-s in rear). I have been looking at alot of videos and FAQ but dont want to mess up! what would be the best wire set to buy? and does my 2001 CL-S have a stock amp that i need to take out? also i bought my car and the deck was replaced with a clarion DB185mp. Is that deck not strong enough? if so, i plan to replace it with one of these ipod friendly decks... http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-DEH-22...3542443&sr=8-1

Thanks for all help/ opinions

Knukonceptz or Darvex for inexpensive wire kits. Monoprice for speaker wire, or rca wire if you need.

If you are jumping in a pool and don't know how to swim, www.bcae1.com for the basics of car audio so you don't blow something up or cause a fire.

There are many good amps, any amp that is free is better than what you have, but if you find out what it is I can be more of service. A decent 4ch amp runs about $100-150 on the net, $200 or so out there in retail-land.

www.bcae1.com contains a full power wire gauge measuring tool to help understand what gauge you need. 1/0 is for BIG amps and lots of them, 4 gauge fits either multi-amp setups or one big sub amp, and 8 gauge is minimum in my book.

Let's see what that amp is first. BTW if you plan on upgrading to multiple amps (sub, front/rear) then run 4 gauge. At the very least, you could later run another run of 4 gauge and run two amps, and at the most a 4 gauge setup can run two amps of modest power.

Head Unit Smoking

ok so.....

i just got my car back today from a tranny swap. once i started the car, the unit said it was in protected mode for i don't know what reason. so i figure the rear speakers was making this happen(because it said that when i first added the rears but the error went away). pulled off the wires to the rears and turned on the car. Head unit worked but only the front right speaker was playing. after 10 seconds smoke came out of the head unit and i quickly shut off the car. Before i gave the car to my mech for the tranny swap, i added those 4 speakers over a year ago. why did it just malfunction?
