Add tweeters

Hello all, I am hoefully buying a tl-s next week and I had a stereo question. I dont want to get a whole new stereo system, but I was thinking about assing a pair of tweeters to help the sound a tad. Has anyone done that? Is it worth it? And where is the best place to mount. Thanks for helping out this future newbie.

Welcome to the board... as for your question i dont know about assing any tweeters...lol... but if you want to add tweeters i dont think that it will work... i really dont think that the stock bose system has enough power to add tweeters.. i would recommend doing like alot of other members did and just replace the stock door speakers with some polks or something else along those lines...

Dropping a set of Polks in the front doors is probably the best way to go. I put my tweeters on the piece of black plastic behind the mirrors, and they can be angled when first installed for best sound image placement. I give them modest power(80 wattsx4) and the biggest difference I saw was the highs from the tweets. And believe me it is a HUGE difference from the stock system. Why this car doesn't have tweeters and the old generation TL does ALONG with the ones on the ROOF is baffling. The rear doors can get the Polk treatment as well for about 100-120 bucks( I dropped in the 6 1/2" non-component ones, and they fill the rear soundstage nicely.

You definitely want to drop in a small 4-channel amp to drive them, which can be had for around 2-300 bucks. I use Alpine v-12 amps, and they run really cool even in the summer. I had an MTX Thunder4244 in the old one, and it literally overheated every 35 minutes.( which is why I had it for about a week........lol) With a great car like yours, you may as well throw in great speakers to go with it.
