1st gen ('96 - '04) RL Stereo Upgrade

Has anyone else replaced the factory headunit? How is it mounted?

I'd like to get a double din unit that doesn't look too out of place, tacky or flashy. I prefer volume and tuning knobs.

Not many RLers post over here. I've never seen a aftermarket stereo in a RL in this section.

Personal preference I prefer the Pioneer AVIC double dins..

Looked at that, its a possibility.

I like the look of the Kenwood units that have separate knobs for volume and tuning. Unfortunately the units I looked at have USB inputs on the front instead of the back.

I'll probably call up Crutchfield tomorrow and see if I can get anywhere with them.

I should mention I have the stock navi system and have converted the Onstar system to bluetooth, so no need for that.

I'll probably add HD radio to whatever I get.

Ken

what do you want to achieve? are you going to replace speakers and amp or just want to add features?

Do you want just an aux input? iPod nterface?

I'm personally trying to work something out so that I can use a regular iPod adapter (the kind u plug into the cd changer port) while still retaining the original cd changer and being able to switch between the two. This would also work with an aux input of the same kind.

I have the pinout for the nav versions 12 pin plug and it's basicly the same connections as the regular Honda 8 pin changer. I have yet to install an iPod unt an verify though. Hopefully after the holidays I can splurge on myself a little.

Also have you looked at units like the MTX RE-Q and JL adio cleansweep, they add aux in capablity b Being spliced into the outputs from the radio to the amp

I personally have a JL cleansweep but I'm also going to use 2 four channel amps and new speakers all around.

I have many an idea my friend

Would a "splitter" with aux-in/CD changer inputs be possible with the navi models?

I might just do a single DIN headunit (double wont fit, i measured) if I can find a classy looking model, just wondering how the wiring is going to work out for this. Not to mention work with the bluetooth board (which isnt working properly STILL)

Takes me 5 minutes to install a stereo in my '97 TL
