12w6v2 or 10w7????

What's up everyone I'm new to the room but I've had my '99 Acura 3.2 TL for about 2 years now.... I've recently decided to go head and add a new stereo system to my car along with some other upgrades. I purchased a JL Audio 500/1 and 12w6v2 from a friend who works at Tweeter for a good deal but I'm kind of skeptical on the sound of 1 12w6v2 sub... do u guys think I would be better of selling the 12w6v2 and getting a 10w7 in a slot ported box or am I under estimating this sub??? I mainly listen to rap and r&b....

The 12w6v2 is a decent sub. You should be fine. The 10w7 is an awesome sub. It just depends if you want to pay for it. You pay for what you get.

Both are very good. A W7 in a slot ported box is loud as hell...Im sure you can put the W6V2 in a slot ported box also though.

slot port the w6v2 and yes you are really under estimating the w6. The W6 can get really loud just have tweeter you a custom slot ported box tuned to like 32hz. Your bass will sound clean and also drop pretty low.

The cool thing about the W7 is all the throw it has. It has I think 40 to 50% excursion and it sounds like theres like a natural bass boost at the lower frequncys.

If u really have the money go with the 12w7 slot ported on the 500/1 and trust me it will get LOUD

A good ported box can make any good sub WAYYY better. My friend has the same subs that I have and the JL 500.1 on the in a slot ported box in his Tahoe and it freaking rocks!!!

But excursion wise, the W6V2 doesnt have much more than the W3V2's...so if you have the money or means...get the W7

Yes the exact amount. JL amps are unique, they put out the same power with a range of input volts (11-14.5) and a range of ohms (1.5-4).

Why dont you want a 3 amp system? Space? I honestly would try the 1 W6 with the 500.1 amp now in a good ported box, I bet you would be very surprised.

I agree with my Okie buddy. Try the 12W6 first. It might be more than enough bass for you.

Is 500 watts enough power for a 10W7? I thought they were pretty power hungry?

I say get the W7 if you have the money. I heard Mike's(got3.2) system. He has 1-10W7 powered by a JL500.1 with a nice ported box, looks to be around 2 cuft. and that s hit Wangs hard.

That is a good idea, I originally wanted that, but my installer didnt really think it would be a good idea...and I didnt really give him enough time cause I was excited! I would think it would require a pretty decent box design and not just have the sub firing toward the back and have the port on the top of the box...AcuraX2 can you take pictures of your setup and explain your box design some because Im going to redue my trunk in the near future.

I have my Diamond TDX facing toward the rear seats. The S-shaped port goes from the top of the box up thru the factory holes. I do have 1,100 watts going into it and it provides awesome bass. Dropping the rear armrest provides a bass boost but, my listening tastes never need it. It is more than loud enough for me. My installer has done alot of rides and installs and he thinks it is the best one sub system he has ever heard. All from a single 10" sub. I do have pics, I just have not had the time to upload them to a page so I can post them. If someone wants to post them or see them, email me and I will send them over.

here is a good FREE uploading site, for anyone interested. I am deffinately thinking about only running 1 of my subs when I redue my system or maybe keep both, I dont know. I am going to need my trunk space sometime though and I think that porting through the stock sub location will be great; it will probably help to lower trunk rattles also.

Some if I got crazy with the bass. With my normal listening habits, it never rattles. Now, if I really want to crank it up, then yes, it will rattle the trunk but, still not too bad. I put damping on the trunk floor and also the trunk lid. It seemed to help quite a bit. If you are into just cranking the bass everywhere you go, there is not much you can do about the trunk rattling.

Try doing 2 layers in the trunk. I just ordered 100 sq ft of eDead V1.se, it's 70 m thick. I plan on doing the entire trunk once and the 4 doors, and if any is left over, I will go over the trunk again. The trunk really shouldn;t rattle at all if you do 2 layers of good damoening.
