Exclamation Modesto to Sacramento Ca, lets make a meet

Many of you know I am always posting for people to come to Thunderhill Raceway in Willows and do a mini meet and track day.

So this is an interest posting- would anyone in the I-5 H-99 corridor like to make an Acura meet somewhere in between?

Get some good group pics of our cars, trade info on mods, take a nice backroads cruise into the foothills?

Dont let those LA guys have all the fun, there are a number of them caravanning right now to meet!!

Cmon Nor Cal lets get it together

I have been waiting for this. But I am in Vacaville, Directly the third part of the perfect triangle from sac, stockton, and vacaville. Bummer. So the meet will be somewhere on the 99 or 5? well i think it might be eaier to meet in sac, or in stockton but not inbetween anywhere.

I will check my reciepts- got it done here in town - really nicejob

All others

My intent was to invite everyone in the Bermuda triangle from vville east to wherever and north to thunderhill

That means everyone is invited, not- lets meet in sucktown, althought there is a big empty lot by a parts store here just for meeting place

We can put something together- totally casual- in each town- we are all within an hour at most- and there are some great roads too

If each person can look for a place in their town that will not hassle us about being there doing pics and such for a few hours, local school on the weekend etc that will help and we can make real plans and dates from there.

And anyone interested in track time at Thunderhill, ask me, you will have a blast
I would like to see a group of us on course in a formation for some pics- at 100 mph

Thanks all
Tom

Oranizng a meet

Great - so we have almost a dozen already in just a few days!

Hope some of you will want to do the track day thing at Thunderhill as well.
I was reading about the LA meet the other night. There were no details except a pic of damage to one acura and one oncoming vehilce, one person said "yeah when I saw you get sideways I got a little nervous and the guy had his brights on so I was blinded- I just braked and hoped not to hit you!

Not the kind of thing we want at our meets

So just chime in with suggestions on sat sun or weekday- who has real jobs and who has time during the week
The Light Rails lots are easy access to all- good idea

see thunderhill.com for schedule of HPDE days and there are 2 or 3 other street car schools that also run there, plus motorcycle schools.

Racing season starts in a month and I get busy so lets do this!

Hey 1st Place

I did not mean Sac was sucktown- I was referring to my own abode a bit south

Meeting in Sac is easy and central enough for most of us.

Guess this means its break out with the wax and buffer, clean the engine, polish the whatevers...

Looks like at least one here can share some detail tips with the rest of us!

there is already a bay area thread for meets. the bay does not need additional representation. thats why this was branched away from the bay area thread.

Lightbulb Planner and Locations

I'd say if we doing something shouldn't spice it up with food? I'd suggest the starter of this thread to keep things on track and somewhat step in to plan the meet. If we can stay focus and organized this meet will turn out nice.

Anyhow regarding food. Simply put once we determine who will be going we can order pre-cooked food or barbeque. The barbeque will take up a lot of time and I know no one wants to stick around the grill and cook for the rest. Best bet is order pre-cooked food from a asian restaurant which is pretty cheap. Also another note is that I know this will happen, but if we are serious about this everyone has to be honest about it.

In order to provide food we need to put up some money to cover it's cost. There are always those who crash the meet and just grub off the food that others paid for. Best bet we have a list and enforce it...But not to sure how effective it will be.

01tl4tl - There are various locations that we can meet at. Either it be a lightrail station or at a park we should start picking. I'm not too sure where everyone is from but to compensate here are some suggestions. If anyone has an idea

LIGHTRAILS:

Meadowview - 700 Parking spots - farthest south of Sacramento in Elk Grove which can be beneficial to those coming up from Stockton, Bay. Bad points about this is that it's just a parking lot and nothing more can't really do anything here.

POWER INN - 300 Parking spots - right off Hwy 50, little further up from Meadowview (10-15 minutes) but closer to Davis peeps and the upper north people (Yolo, El Dorado. if there are any). Bad points about this is that it's just a parking lot and nothing more can't really do anything here.

Here is a map: http://www.sacrt.com/systemmap/mainmap.pdf

PARKS:
North Laguna Creek Park - Nice location, closer to those in stockton and bay. Has a lot of amenities and barbeque pits next to the parking lot. Check the picture below. Good points are the food and amenities here. Cons of it is that we might have party crashers or non-paying attendees who come to get free grub (Sorry to think this way, but it happens almost every single time)

If you have a idea for a place do your research and post it here and give us information like I did.

TIME FRAME:
I'm thinking we should do this somtime by end of February or early March. NOT SPRING BREAK.

Ok, this week or next week. not this saturday. maybe we could have a regular thursday evening meet somewhere. Rotating, each week is in a diff city. 1 week in sac, 1 week in stockton, 1 week in Davis. then start the rotation again. Off highway 113 on russell exit in Davis there is a parking lot, has the old tea house which i think is chinese and korean type or food, but i think it's chinese. it just looks weird and i have not eaten there. But i go there for the boba drinks. next door is a starbucks. on the other side is the graduate club. hmmm on second thought how about Richards rd. exit off the 80 in Davis, there is a ton of things there like in n out, applebees, del taco, kfc, wendys, and something else can't remember. Ok i don't know if any of this sounds good to anyone. just a thought.

The Plan and making it happen

Hello all -hey we need a name for our group- sac area members

I am the starter of this thread so I will put out my idea.

This eliminates pretty much all the concerns over food, things to do etc.

Mindful that this is a basic plan-
Meet at 9 am near the intersection of I-5
exact place to be determined
Tech Talk- Pics-

10 am Depart for Thunderhill Raceway in Willows, about an hour north of Sac Intl Airport-
Arrive at track and observe one of the High Performance Driving Schools in action
Its a really nice track where you can easily walk and sit on bleachers
Observe how people are entering and exiting the corners- discussion of driving skills

**Possible bonus tour while at track- calls being made
Large area for staging group pics

Depart track south on I-5 to Indian Casino near Williams-- sorry under 21s
If you want lunch- you pay the cashier at the buffet and we can easily arrange a group table there.

Depart Casino via numerous backroads -gotta love GPS- or freeway it home on your own.

Next HPDE day with the car group I know is Feb 22 a Thursday,
The weekends of Feb 17/18 and 24/25 are booked by motorcycle clubs
Then its SCCA race driver school the first weekend of March- pretty much guarantees it will be cold windy and rainy that weekend- just my experience

Anyone remember the Ford GT ad came out Superbowl ad a few years ago?
That nice GT sliding thru the corner just kissing the berm?
Guess where that was all filmed!!!

So how does that sound for a get together?

We can eliminate the track visit until a time when cars are running- shortens the day and allows for a nice backroads drive instead
Feedback?

Forgot to mention the SCCA date is March 3 and 4
Its pretty entertaining as some of the drivers have done Track School days in prep for racing school, or got the racing bug from track days, and others are getting in a very powerful and totally unfamiliar race car. As they learn the line and braking points- the speeds pick up -so does the excitement for the spectators!

I have been there as a driver, crew, track staff...

It would be fun to go and hang out and then be able to leave this time!

i think for the 1st time, it should just be a meet and greet, for myself, I just dont have the money to plop down for thunderhill. We used to have sac meets every few months, that went on for the past 15 years. It ended this past year because the main guy (red rider) moved to oregon. The plan was always the same: meet at the in-n-out/starbucks off of laguna in elk grove. then we would head off to the "infamous sac town twisty runs" I have numerous pictures and videos from the past meets/drives if you guys are interested. We used to hold the largest thread in here and it got shut down at 15,000 posts.

If you guys wanted, I could find out the route that we took, I remember we would stop half way at this little diner, i think it was called marla and glens or something.

the roads were nice, very smooth and fun, lots of twists and turns. we would bring walkies and divide the groups into 3 - a fast group, medium and slow. The fast group was comprised of the veterans, they were crazy, taking the turns at like 120, when I was scared to be taking them even at half the speed

I would have to agree more to this as stated by KLepTo.

I just like to meet the fellow AZ'ers. Im not into none of the racing attributes just a nice smooth modified yet stock look. Meet new people who enjoy the ACURAS as much as I do and learn from others techniques they used to clean their ride and so forth.

How many $$$ is Free?

OK Let me clarify

ITS NO COST TO VISIT THUNDERHILL

We would be there simply as visitors and with a few of us being licensed race drivers, we can point out how getting into the corner properly gets you out of the corner at maximum speed. Learning by watching!

Learn to drive at 120 before testing the public roads like that, besides the street racing ticket would be well over the $250 for a day of track school.
The idea was to have you expereince from behind the fence what it can be like!

If you want to learn some set up tips, info on strut bars and shocks- coilovers- weight balance- the track is the place to learn.

The driving techniques work at street speeds just as much as on the track.
In fact, they tell you to go low speed practice all the things you learned

If you want to meet others to learn how to wax on wax off- have fun with yourselves!

My car just stays stock looking and is fun under the skin, I dont even detail it
perfect so it doesnt stand out in the crowd

Anyone with track experience or a comp license PM me for some fun drives where we can head for the hills and do some lead and follow
Must be skilled trained driver

Wow this turned from friendly to argueing in less time than it takes to warm the seats haha. Ok well how about we make this thing work instead of argueing. If march 3rd is the track day then we still have a whole month to meet and greet right? what day of the week works best for everyone to meet in the evening for several hours after work to meet and greet and maybe have dinner as well? how about we plan to do that and then once that is done we can take the track day info for people interested. I always wanted to go to the track, never have but if it's free to watch and learn i'm there. Not sure about the car, but i will be going there on my bike sometime. So does this sound good for everyone? post a day that is good to meet and we can set this up for the dates inbetween feb 10th to feb 20th. I am free all those days so far as I am currently a house husband due to a bike injury recently.

I started this thread to see if a few of us could meet at a local park n ride lot- which are usually empty on the weekends and are located right along main freeways, check out each others mods, those that want- take a casual cruise.

I don't care about going to eat as a group- and summer is the time for a several hour bbq and fun party

There are many backroads and I am open to all suggestions of prior fun run routes, thats why I said love the GPS. Ther are some great circle routes that go up 50 and down 49.

You younger guys may be able to eat fast food, but others take a different approach to their diet, largely on Doctors orders.

The Indian Casino is just a nice background for pics instead of parking lots

I totally agree with KLepTo. I just want a meet and greet. im a youngster and my car is mostly stock so i just wanna see some rides and do some driving. this is gonna be my first meet so i dont wanna over do it. dont really care about food, just meet-greet-look at cars-drive! just a simple meet for me.

That's what i'm saying.

I didn't mean to offend you but just from what you said. You lost my interest. I'm not here to meet people like you who think that way.

People like Me

People Like Me

What is that supposed to mean?

Someone who prides themselves on 20+ years of race driving skills, who daily practices hitting the exact spot on every corner and exits perfectly on the line, and that just the daily drive?

Yes that does make me only want other skilled drivers near me on a mountain run.
People that know how to control the car, unlike the LA group that had an accident on the cruise night when someone overdriving the car or their skills took out oncoming innocent bystander traffic

Or the guy who keeps his ride clean enough but not so shiny as to draw attention?

Or is it the -have a destination- someplace most of you have never been and its FREE to park and FREE to Watch race cars- OH NO Not New Experiences!!!

Or -As I said in the above post- My intent was just to meet a few people, check out the cars and take a drive together.
Then someone starts talking about food so I suggest a way to avoid any no pays
Then I am supposed to make a date and a list and..................

As it stands, anyone who wants to do the simple meet at park n ride as said above- and go have a few hours of fun- contact me
Any day after the fog lifts!!!

i think just meet, greet, look at cars, drive. i dunno if we could get everyone to agree on food and money would be a hassle. as for the track thing, not intrested in driving all the way to the track just to see races. waste of time and gas. but just my tell me when you guys wanna meet up for just a simple meet

Ummmm
Just where DO you go to see car races if not at the track?

Anyway, I have been trying to make the point that on a drive- a stop for food can be made- those who want to, stay - others go on their way
Just like I saw bike clubs doing today, just out for a drive
