I need to start to detail about now so I can have time to remove all the swirls and minor scratches before the meet. I'm doing about each quarter of the car every week since the full detail last about 8 to 10 hrs and I don't have time nor energy for it (Wash, clay, polish to remove swirls - 2 steps, and finally wax)

Aye... claybar be the longest part... Also wax can be added on for several coats before the next strip down. Thin, multiple layers keeps car looking luminously wet.

Clay will remove it. Good car soap also remove it. Dishwashing soap also remove it but it's not good for the paint. Some water spots is very hard to get rid off since it might already burned thru the paint. This is called below surface paint defect. Polish can be remove water spot but depend on how deep the water spots, agressive polish grade might have to use, but be careful what you are trying to do if you haven't done it before since agressive polish can cause more scratches thus have to follow with lighter grade polish or if using machine sucha as rotary can easy burn/strip the car paint off.

My friend has major water spot issues on his passenger side window. What the hell can get it off? He tried a bunch of methods.. but no success.

Dawn dish washer is what you should use to strip wax off, but don't use it alone directly on paint that is not treated with wax/polish. Recommended by Zaino Bros.

"I would definitely recommend you remove the wax buildup on your paint. Use Liquid Dawn, or a similar liquid hand dishwashing soap as a car wash. Dawn has a high alkaline content that cuts through carnauba wax, paraffin, silicon oils, etc. This will get your finish squeaky-clean and wax free. I don't advise making a habit of washing your car with Dawn, but for this scenario it is fine. High alkaline products like Dawn are tough on polishes. It will never harm the paint finish. A car wash is made specifically to clean without removing durable polishes." -- SJ Zaino dealer

I should clarify that clay, car soap removes wax, not water spot. Well, if after a good car wash and the water spot is not removed, then it already burned thru the paint. Meguiar's has very good article on how to remove water spots here: http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/sho...ht=water+spots and if any of you have a chance to come down So Cal, I highly recommend to spend one Sat's morning and go to Meguiars headquater and learn most of the basic on paint car care. You will learn more stuffs in one day that ever before. After all, the class is free. Well, enough of advertise for Meguiars's. Just clarify that I'm not working nor associate by any mean to Meguiar's. I'm just a happy customer of their products.

Cant wait! Now that the meet is coming, we should finalize the list starting July 1st. That way, we know how many people are coming and what to bring to the meet. I just need to start detailing the car slowly now.....

that is way too soon. many people drop out a week before.

we'll finalize it about 5 days before the meet, which is more than enough time to drop peple off the list to see what is still being brought and what we still need

I don't think 5 mile range is good enough!
While browsing yesterday, 22 mile range walkie talkies have a range of .50 miles to 1.5 miles (for car to car communications).

Honestly, I've never been impressed with the range on those small walkie talkies. They are good for car stuff, but beyond 1 mile I think they are hopeless. Only walkie talkie I ever had that had good range was actually about 1.5-2 miles and it was a big military style one. Bigger than those 1980 cell phones. Pretty kick ass but they broken now.

If you have passengers, it's amazing how you can connect via the DS and play while driving next to each other or drafting

It's not a must, but doesn't hurt to bring one. Last year I couldn't hear anything on the walkie on the way up there, but IMO having cell phone #s of few members from each caravan group is a must in case of stopping at rest stop, changing location, or coordinate to meet up.
