How do the vanity mirror bulb covers come out?

How do the license plate light covers come out?

I couldn't get these 2 covers off for the life of me.

 

The vanity light is the easy one.
1. Wrap some tape around the edge of a screwdriver.
2. Carefully slide the screwdriver between the metal mounting ring (along the long edge, nearest to the inside mirror) until the tip of the screwdriver is resting against the lens locking tab.
3. Rotate the screwdriver handle towards the center of the vehicle while pressing the tip of the screwdriver against the locking tab to release the lens.
4. Pull the lens down

The license plate covers do not come off. You have to completely remove the trunk lid liner, and then pull the socket out from inside the trunk.

I was able to get to the license plate bulbs from the outside. I'll try to explain...

• Remove all license plates and brackets
• Open trunk
• Locate bulb cover – push this to the left and pry open on right side (I may have the sides reversed)
• The entire unit should come loose.
• The unit basically rotates downward, you should see the bulb.
• You have to work at dislodging the unit from underneath the trim – BUT IT WILL COME OUT.
• After it comes out release the two tabs on the sides and change the bulb (Same bulbs as dome lights).
• After changing the bulb, I had to use a butter knife on the bottom to get it back inside the trim work.

The bottom line here: have patience. The first bulb may take ten minutes, but the second will only take you two.

 

Not to get too far O/T, but what size bulbs do the vanity mirror lights use?

i tried doing the vanity mirror but just can't seem to figure out how to remove the darn lens cover.

is there any way you can post a picture of where exactly the lens locking tab is.

after numerous tries, I finally got the lens cover removed.

the locking tab for the left side mirror is in the center of the right side of the lens. opposite side for the right side visor.

tried the blue light special and decided to just stick to the white leds

sorry to bring up and old topic but im still kinda confused....are the vanity lights the same thing as the trunk light and if so....how do i remove the bulb from the lens?
