Potential strut issue: Should have posted here!
Sorry about the double post, missed this "forum":
I noticed a light rattle when hitting certain bumps in my new 23 TYPE S from the day I got it....at first I thought it was maybe SUMMER TIRE slap? Or the like....not familiar with a super sticky tire as it's been a LONG time since I've used them....but anyway....
Went to service (I work for an Acura dealer) and said something...in the meantime I'm talking to a tech about ANOTHER Type S, one of my clients, that is in for....a rattle and rubbing noise. Anyway, Acura told him to replace upper and lower arms, brakes and rotors (for the rubbing noise), which is gone and the 'rattle' is still there. The tech hit the struts with a rubber mallet and on the left strut, driver side, heard...a rattle. I took a ride with him in this Type S....SAME noise as mine.
So? Potential strut issue on 23's. In case you hear anything...FYI.

I found this site looking for this very issue. My 23 Type S has a very loud rattle when going over certain types of bumps. Have only 400 miles on it. Been to dealer twice. They can replicate sound but have dismissed it as normal as another customers Type S does the same thing. Sounds as though the front wheel is going to fall off.
On first visit they attributed sound to an aerodynamic flap which they said was hitting frame. On second visit dealer said they re-torqued every bolt related to the front left suspension and subframe. Rattle is still present.
I will take back to dealer with this info and see what they say. I can't believe this is truly a normal noise. Doesn't sound normal, regardless of what type of car it is.

Yeah parts supplies aren't doing so great right now. Are you still driving car? Did they say there was any safety issue or possible damage to other components from driving car? Sorry for all the questions, just want to know what to tell dealer when I take it in again.

They aren’t sure what the exact issue is, but I guess it’s OK to drive. He didn’t say otherwise, and we have no choice because we don’t have the parts lol but it was doing it from day one so it’s not something that “happened” it actually came from Acura that way.
How loud is your rattle? If I have the window cracked and hit the right type of bump it sounds like someone dumped a bag of aluminum cans on the ground. Also noticed it's on passenger side now, as well as starting to happen over smaller imperfections in the road.
I liken it to the good old days when you had a bad ball joint. A sharp 'rattle'...like to joints with no rubber grommet! So yeah, sounds about right. And I hear it on BOTH sides. So far we THINK it's strut related....ordering struts to see what happens. The tech hit it with a rubber mallet and heard the noise...so....
So quick update: Tech took the car out, checked a few things...then called tech line. They said to take out a NEW Type S, not like mine is old!, and.....same issue....so they told him "it's just the way it is..." Well, we are replacing a strut to see what happens anyway and then? I call Acura customer care and bitch. So if anyone has this issue? I suggest you do the same. the sqeakier the wheel the more the grease....
That's a very poor response from Acura. Would have thought their standards were higher. Might expect that response from a "lesser" brand. I sent the service manager at my dealer an email with sound clips of the sound. Maybe they will help, who knows. Pretty disappointed with this issue. Car sounds like a 20 year old beat up truck going over bumps.
It seems to be a 23 issue...haven't seen or heard issues like this with the 21/22. Just FYI.
Same sound
I have a 23’ Type S and I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. I have that sound from the front driver’s side and it’s most prominent when driving over a manhole cover or a patch road (like when the cable company rips up the road and fills it back with uneven soft asphalt.
I had my dealer test it and they didn’t hear anything. I’m just over 5000 miles, and I cannot always reproduce the sound. I know I hear it most when I’m sport or sport +.
I love the car so I just turn up the audio system. There is no perfect car for under $60k c

Curious if anyone has checked for a broken engine/transmission mount? Had one break in my 2003 Accord a long time ago and took us forever to finally figure it out...after replacing sway bar links, bushings, etc., thinking it was suspension related. It made similar sounds, like the whole front end was going to fall apart. Open the hood and rev the engine...you'll know if one is bad. The engine will nearly jump out at you. Just another thought.
My dealer checked those mounts. All were in good working order. He showed me everything they checked, which was quite a few things. All checked out fine. They aren't giving up on it and agree that the noise is not normal and unbecoming of an Acura. On my car noise can be heard in all drive modes and is easily reproducible on asphalt cracks.I would say crack needs to be over 2 inches wide. The type of cracks which are usually fixed by "tar snakes".
So let's bring this one back with an UPDATE:
IT"S NOT THE STRUT! I THINK it's the brakes. Anyone experiencing this "rattle" in the front end over bumps, do the following test:
When you come to that bump that you KNOW causes the issue...apply light braking. Just enough to set the brakes on the rotor...so get some speed up if needed, coast and apply light brake. Let me know if it goes away.
After service had no luck on fiding this and changing out the strut to no avail, I found it! maybe....
I noticed a clicking sound when going forward, then back, or vice versa, say in a parking lot or turning around in a driveway. Well supposedly it's the brake pads 'moving'. I first heard it on the 21 Advanced TLX...it was annoying, but only when 'forward/backward'. So paid it no mind. Then, the other day I was thining "Hey, that SOUNDS the same?!" So mentioned it to service. Now when I drive on a KNOWN bad road for suspsnsion noise, I BRAKE over those bumps....and?
NOTHING! It seems to the issue...something in the brakes. They are replacing them to see if that works.
Just a heads up. Try it!

I admittedly haven't been driving my car much, since the noise irritated me like no other and I heard it so much with the less than great roads in Albuquerque.
Glad to see an update. I did what was suggested and low and behold NO noise! The service manager at my dealer always suspected it was brake related. I hope this solves the issue. I will contact him and see if parts are available and when it can be fixed.

by the way it’s not just a 23 issue I have a 21 type s
I have nothing to lose but let me throw this out there as a possibility: back when I was a '21 TLX A-Spec owner, one of the things that drove me insane was a constant tapping sound when driving over uneven ground. Took it to Acura and they claimed they added more insulation to the door, etc. but it didn't fix the issue. After a while, I got the idea to look down near where I heard the noise and localized it to the lower left driver side. There is a seat belt mount that is padded on one side and unpadded on the other. I figured I had nothing left to lose so I held on to the seat belt mount while driving over uneven ground that I knew would replicate the issue and the sound was gone! The "tap tap tap" of that blasted seat belt mount drove me crazy for the 2 years I had the car (padded side made no difference)! Easily reproduceable and maybe helps someone out there...
So quick update: After driving about 4 days and applying brakes over bumps, the noise was gone...until you just go over said bumps with NO brakes applied. Dealer ordered new brakes, rotors/pads, and installed them.
Sorry to say, even though it seems to be a brake issue, that DID NOT fix it. Probably makes MORE noise now over even lighter bumps! UGH.....so back to Acura Customer affairs to bitch again and maybe thought to reach out to BREMBO....but good luck with dealing with Italy!
