My 2021 TLX/ASPEC, is 7 months old; my Navigation screen says it needs a software update
Acura techs say it's a $150 upgrade through USB
Is it worth it? C'mon, they should do it for FREE

WTF??? Hondas come with five years of free GPS updates!

 

You can do it yourself for FREE. Just updated mine. All you need is a Flash drive and some patience. Took about 2 hours to download the new maps to the flash drive and 35 minutes to install.

What year/model did you update? How many years of FREE updates does it have? I can't find anywhere online where Acura talks about free updates for current/recent cars. Hondas come with five years of Honda MapCare™ Program, which I've been using since 2019 to update my wife's 2018 Pilot.

My '07 TL-S 6MT has the older Alpine system which requires a new DVD, at $150 an update, although if you drag your feet long enough you can get it for half-price when they're getting ready to do a newer update.

 

21 TLX. Thats a good question as I am not sure how many years of free updates. I too was coming from a Honda Nav system as my 18 Accord had 5 free years.

Something is NOT right. I have done 2 map updates (free) since purchasing my TLX in March. Perhaps a call to Acura Corporatewill get you squared away. Question....are you doing a map update or a software update? I also got a software message update when I first purchased the car. I updated it by connecting my cars Nav to my wireless home internet connection. It completed the software update without any issues. Good luck.

According to Acura's navigation site at this link, map updates for the '21 TLX are available for free up to 4 times per year.

They're not wrong. When you go to Acura to do the update, they will charge you the "labor" of installing the update.

As some of us have said, you have the option to do it for free yourself. Download the update to a 16 GB USB. Plug it into your car and the update should be done in an hour.
I will choose to do it myself every time!

So how did you make out with the map update?

 

Everything worked, at 1st; now it's saying I need a Map update, again
Bizarre; the Navigation said I completed the update
The next day, it said, I need an update
my dealer is clueless

Same here. Sounds like a glitch in the update. Mine does show the latest update. I am able to use the navigation however.

 

Nav works fine; on some trips it's BETTER than Waze, Google, or Apple
Only thing that sucks, is there's no text messaging notification
You can text, & receive, but not like Waze
Oh well, can't have everything
I'd rather have my USB/5.1 surround audio

Call the NAV tech support number: 888 528 7876. Use extension 87868. Tell Louis what you want to do and he should be able to square you away.

 

Same issue here. Updated the maps successfully and can see the new map date. However, it shows a prompt that the maps need to be updated before entering a destination.

 

Hey CPR.. in what way have you found that the in dash GPS was better than Waze? Traffic rerouting? This is most important to me as I often drive through Chicago to get to WI from OH.

 

It just seems, that the routing is more direct; it's not perfect, but what is?
For me, I'm more interested, in the USB/5.1 Music, which you can't play if Apple CarPlay is plugged in
I'm now having an issue, with my new IPhone 12, which doesn't charge wirelessly
Apple & Acura, are working on a fix; we'll see

 

My iPhone 12 Mini doesn’t charge either. I don’t know if this is a software fix. I hope so.

My nav update worked perfectly, although it’s not fast. The USB drive must be formatted in FAT32. I downloaded the map to USB Thursday and installed in my car today. Took about an hour during my two hour drive today.

 

Hello, I have downloaded the file and inserted it into the USB port. The GPS will say it is updating the map for about 15 sec then this message is gone. I have let it sit for two hours and nothing else comes up on the screen and the map date is from 2019? Not sure what I am doing wrong? Maybe I need to download it again??

 

I had the same problem with both of my 2021 TLX and RDX Talking to Louis fixed my problem in both cars I think. time will tell.
The process is a factory reset which requires anything you have added to be re added.

A factory reset is located in Settings. I don't remember just where but is is settings. Also an update after resetting the very next routing request resulted in "Maps are out of date" so reset will not fix the problem. I am on the phone with Acura in car apps hoping for another fix.I will post the next step as soon as I get it

Looking forward to a resolution. Double checked my map today and the Nav web site indicated that my map (2021.03.18) is the most current, but I still get the "map pout of date' message.

 

After a long talk with "Acura in car apps" they said that if factory reset didn't fix the problem then my next stop is back at my dealership. SO I have an appointment Thursday at 0900 so they can have the car all day and work with "acura Tech" to determine what to do to fix it. This will be the 3rd time I have taken the car back for the same problem. I think in Texas after the 5th time the law says they must replace the car or buy it back at full price. Hope it doesn't get to that as I love my TLX.
Will keep all informed to the resolution of the "map out of date" problem.

I'm not sure if this would qualify for the lemon law (being able to update GPS maps but operating system says it's not updated). Definitely not a safety issue.

This would be very low in Acura's history of infractions as there are some 1G TLX owners that will gladly tell you about their transmission problems that Acura never admitted to.
As a matter of fact, I'd say the puddle lights going out on the side mirrors of current models is far more egregious!

 

as a matter of fact I had one of those lights go out also, but it was easily fixed.

 

Easily fixed but does anyone know if it won't happen again the next you time you go to a car wash or leave the car out in the rain?
This design flaw may run the whole current generation of the TLX.

 

My dealer kept my car for 2 days and late this afternoon called me to report: They called Tech Line this afternoon and were told that Acura was aware of the problem and it was a bug in the last system update. They were working on a system update. Hope it happens soon.
So all the fixed we have all tried were in vain. Must wait for update

I have this same problem. I updated a few times and I still get an update prompt.

 

Have the same issue. Fortunately the Nav works. The map update warning does go away eventually.

 

I finally got my maps to update, however I did have to factory reset the unit in order to get it to take. I must be lucky though as I am not getting the "update map" message when selecting a destination. Its nice having the ability to update our maps without the need for a dealer. I do wish it would give you some sort of progress bar vs just letting your car sit in accessory mode hoping it is working.
