Wireless phone charging!

Hey all,

I just noticed that the iPhone 15 Pro features QI2 charging. Will this help with the iPhone charging issue? My iPhone 14 Pro doesn’t charge worth a crap with it.

I’m curious whether or not the iPhone 15 users are having any success!

Qi2 is just essentially Mag charging for the rest of the industry - Android phones. What needs to happen is, the car manufacturers to adopt Qi2 as that will help with the positioning and ensuring that the phone has the most optimal contact with the charging pad. With that said, having the Qi2 in the phone itself won't make things work any better unfortunately as the charging pads need to have it (the additional magnets used to position and snap the phone in the correct position). Lets hope it won't take the automotive industry half a decade or longer to adopt it.

Something I saw from another post helped me. Your phone can’t be close to a full charge or it will kick off anyway. Place your iPhone with the top facing towards the center arm rest, and push it as far towards the arm rest as it can go on the charging mat. I’ve noticed more consistent charging under those conditions.

However, it still does not supply enough power to actually charge your phone if you’re running battery intense applications (e.g., maps). But it will prevent it from draining.

the problem is that the iphone charges wirelessly @ 7.5 or 15 watts which is slow as fk. you should stick to wired charging if you're looking to get some juice within a normal car ride somewhere.

or switch to android where some of us rock 50w wireless and 120w (and beyond) wired charging

Have we gotten to a point where we can't plug in a phone to charge? Are we that lazy now?

I'm seriously asking by the way.

I wouldn’t say it’s laziness but it’s nice to be able to place the phone down and it’ll charge. My work vehicle has wireless CarPlay and it’s nice when it just connects as I enter the vehicle. A wireless charging pad would complete the setup.

Wires are old school.

If wired provides better sound quality, then I’ll always plug it in regardless.

I have read that with Apple CarPlay it doesn’t provide any better quality but I can’t confirm.

Everyone who owns a TLX today (and doesn't have a wireless third-party dongle) will get better sound when the phone is connected by wire to the infotainment compared to Bluetooth.

The MY24+ TLX will have native wireless AA/CP which, if it's anything like other car makes are doing, initially uses Bluetooth for the handshake w/the phone and then does a handoff to WIFI for higher sound quality/operability (you can't run AA/CP off Bluetooth). You can ask any newer MDX or RDX owner as they've had this for the last 2 years!

The ergonomics of the wired setup is so flawless in the current TLX, in my opinion, that there is simply no need whatsoever for wireless charging. For those of us with OCD about phone stowage and wires hanging every which way - the setup cant be beat. Your phone is visible, but only partially and the wiring to it is invisible. Personally, I love the way it looks and have no issues with having to do a quick plug-in.
