TLX Attention and Compliments

Amongst all the usual discourse that happens in this sub-forum, I wanted to create a thread where current and former 2G TLX owners can share their experiences in terms of compliments and attention they’ve received.

So tell me, is there any interesting stories of your TLX getting attention out in public, or people complimenting it and such?

Have people tried to race you on highways and parkways?

My dealer experience was truly wonderful, from start to finish.. Pohanka Acura is truly the #1 Acura dealer in the world definitely

I test drove on Saturday and got numbers on it and what not, gave me a pretty fair value on my A-Spec. I took the next day to think it over and figure out if I wanted to go ahead and get it now. Monday I made my decision and did it.

however there’s a twist, this TLX-S isn’t the same one I test drove, the one I test drove got sold Sunday. So my sales rep and the sales manager hastily made a call to a nearby dealership and did a DX (Dealer Trade) to ensure I could buy the Type-S in the spec I wanted. So all in all exceptional service shown by the whole sales team at Pohanka all the way up to the GM

sorry for going off-topic in my own thread lol

Nothing that interesting but I've never had so many compliments on my car before since getting my Type S. Filling up gas, at the carwash, or in a parking lot, random folks will come up and say nice car. Sometimes I'll walk back to my car and catch someone checking it out. I don't recall ever having that happen with my S5 Sportback.

yeah so far one I have to share happened last night, literally shortly after taking delivery of my Type-S there was some 2018+ TLX with tinted out windows tryna race me on the highway. I’m just trying to cruise to adhere to the break in period and he was doing all kinds of lane switching lol.

Nothing but compliments, or them telling me that they also bought a TLX Type-S but in different colours. Then the next thing we talked about was always about how long it was the wait time, because it is very difficult to get a TLX-S in Canada due to limited production quantity.

Lots of compliments here with my Type S. I’ve been asked a few times what the name of the color was (TEP) and if I had done anything to it after hearing and seeing the exhaust (stock).
Not as many compliments or as much attention as the CTR or when I had a RHD classic mini.
It’s a great conversation starter but I’m by no means one that tends to show off. I guess I enjoy unique cars. 😄

I will share the opposite experience, I was at the gas station and this Blue TYPE S was next to me and I told him: "Nice car & beautiful color". He thanked me and said he gets lots of compliments at work and gas stations. He was super nice and he said Nice MDX to me

If you're here from Montreal. I saw you on Avenue du Parc - Ultramar around 8ish AM in fall (can't remember the month).

After getting hit by a deer last August and pulling off the road, I had an MDX owner pull up and say "sweet Type S". Yes, the deer ran into the side of the car after I stopped to avoid hitting the rest of his family. It hit right below the Type S badge. It also happened one year to the day after buying the car.

Luckily just needed a new fender and dents pulled from both doors.

I had a deer hit my passenger side on my 2012 TSX. The body shop removed the dents from my door and replaced my PPF as it also ripped the film on my bumper.

I also know the pain of being hit in my Type S. Took 9 days from delivery day to be rear ended. 🥺

Welcome back Elin

TLX love is 4ever! I am keep saying it, and people think I am exaggerating. No one can let go one of the best brands in the world! - reliable, excellent resale value, great driving dynamic and you name it! Glad you are still around...I am sure Acura will bring you back to the family

thank you it was straight MSRP deal no markup or markdown though I would’ve loved $500 off msrp but I wasnt gonna try it seeing as it is the high in-demand Type-S

I have had so many compliments over the 20 months i have had my Blue Aspec, many of them quite animated. Lots of head turns as well. A couple stand out - one young guy stopped his 2014 TL as he was going past me detailing my car outside the car wash. He got out of his car and came over to chat. Another gentleman walked by as I was getting out of my parked car to say loudly - "that is the nicest looking car I have ever seen". I'd say I average 3-4 per month, especially in the warmer months when the car is clean. The looks are too numerousto to count or mention....lots of german car owners

yeah it’s no doubt a beautiful looking sedan, I get a lot of people trying to race me as of recently, I had a late model Mercedes E Class AMG wanting to play cat & mouse race on a main Pkwy yesterday evening. The Type-S exhausts and the sound in sport mode must be taunting or something

day I took delivery there was a tow truck driver on the highway giving the smile and thumbs up. I've had people compliment the color. The other day some guy in a charger wanted to play a bit so I went with him, he rolled down his window and was like "yo man that sh** is quick as f**k"

I don't drive it too much though. Only 6k miles so far closing in on a year.

lmao well when you do drive it, it must be pretty refreshing. Also with the Type-S, any Charger/Challenger that’s not a Hellcat or Redeye trim doesn’t stand a chance against us. SXT, GT, R/T, and Scatpack/392/Daytona are dusted with little difficulty

Woah woah woah.

An R/T put down almost identical numbers in the quarter mile with C&D to the TLX-S, with a slightly better ET. So, on a non-prepped track situation (ie: street) from a dig, the TLX-S would very likely come out on top. But, from a highway roll, it would be very close, with a slight edge to the R/T. The 392/Scatpack are different animals. They run mid-12's with ETs in the mid-11x's. Unless you're running someone completely incompetent behind the wheel, the TLX-S is going to have a bad day against those.

Full bolt-on + tune should make the TLX-S a Scatpack Killer though ... once the tunes become more widely available.

I guess the guys in my area with R/Ts and Scatpacks aren’t good drivers cause I made quick work of a 392 on the highway last week lol

if only Acura had sent this car from factory with 400hp or even 390 hp this would be quite a formidable force in the segment

There’s no way you’re beating a nearly 500 HP scatpack in a stock TLX especially from a roll. Unless they didn’t even know you were racing. High HP means high top end and has less traction issues when moving.

This sounds like the Civic boys bragging about beating M3s…M3s who weren’t even racing.

The 392 traps 12mph higher and 0-100 is over 3 seconds quicker. That’s a huge difference that even a 400hp Type S is not keeping up with, even if you’re brake boosting from a roll.

No doubt its faster and the stats prove it but I probably should have been more specific, he was racing however it was a cat and mouse kinda race and you had to move around "obstacles" if you will. Empty road he would've had it all day long and easily beat me, now earlier I did stretched that statement about "dusting scatpacks/392s/daytonas" with ease... that was the "jittery" feeling in me talking just because the Type-S feels so much faster than my A-Spec I had.

I agree with this, check my above response to FiatLux's reply.

However I do feel like the R/T isn't too much trouble for a Type-S stock. Can the R/T outrun a Type-S? Sure it could however the Type-S wouldn't be far behind. Both cars are very heavy curb weight-wise admittedly. But from a roll I believe the Type-S would take the lead to start and get reeled in shortly after.
This is my first car with a turbocharger and its a different experience for me as im able to quickly sprint to highway speeds of 60+ from a roll of about 25-30 mph

The R/T is much closer and you probably would be able to pull ahead or be neck and neck due to their weight and having 375 HP

I think it may actually be the other way around. Unless you brake boost to build boost, the Type S (and any turbo car) is at a disadvantage from a roll because of turbo lag, whereas an NA car is going to be making peak power immediately (assuming it's in the right gear).

That is true I guess I'd only have a better chance at having an advantage in cold weather as where I live the temperatures drop a lot from December-February as I know turbos perform better in cold weather

Yeah and there's suppose to be a weight advantage on my end since I have the lightweight NSX wheels but apparently it only shaves off about 40lbs from the curb weight iirc

I've got 600 miles on my 23 tlx type s. I was waiting at a traffic light and I hear a honk and see there is a guy next to me in an S4. He said he was really interested in buying the type s and wanted to see how quick it was. He wanted me to open her up to which I declined. Never had that happen before so I guess it's the car.

lol prepare to get that a lot, you don’t exactly have a regular Acura now

a few days ago I had a guy an an Elantra N-Line pull beside me at a red light and tell me how dope my car was and that it’s a “fresh set of wheels”

This past Sunday I was on my way to my Acura dealer and a lady at the traffic light (just before you turn off into the dealership’s service road) followed me into the dealership’s service lane to get a better look at my car she said it was gorgeous and that her and her husband was car shopping and my Type-S has them considering Acura after being longtime Chevy/Cadillac buyers

It kinda scared me abit when she told me she followed me from the traffic light but in the end, the lady was very sweet and nice!

Lady ended up getting a brochure for the MDX-S and TLX-S from sales before leaving.

WOW! this is awesome!

I must say the new lineup of Acura got very good road presence. The TYPE S stands out a lot! Enjoy it

I've received similar comments regarding my A-Spec. Granted, the A-Spec is cosmetically nearly identical to the Type S but the Performance Red definitely makes mine stand out particularly as I'm seeing far less red cars on the road than in years past.

yeah and to add to that, there isn’t many red A-Specs on the road in my area and I BARELY see-matter of fact I haven’t seen ANY red Type-S models on the road here in the DMV at all.

I feel like I got a unique model with this color lol

This week.. had 2 construction guys come up to me in a parking lot and ask “What kinda Acura is this? I haven’t seen one like this!” To which I replied “this is the TLX, TLX Type-S” they told me they really loved the red color and liked the fact that “the red Brembo calipers really makes the car stand out.”

Had a moderately souped up (9th Gen iirc) civic pull up next to me at a stop light the other night and complimented my car. Said they loved the wheels and the quad exhaust tips.

Was busy following my map and rolled thru a stop sign the other day. Cop pulled me over to deliver just a warning, fortunately, and not a ticket. As well as a compliment: "Nice lookin' car". It sure is.

Just had someone in a parking lot come up and say "nice car, never seen an Acura with 4 exhaust pipes before"
He looked like he's in his early 20's so I gave him a pass and didn't bring up the TL Type S.

Saw a Type S cameo in a major film the other day: Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile. Javier Bardem's character gets tossed out of a moving TLX Type S in TEP by some nefarious dudes (i.e. mafia or some other unsavory group). If the producers were looking for something sporty and exotic looking, that Type S certainly fit the bill!

In any case, Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile is a great family movie!

Bringing this thread back to the top… I got some more stories

I usually go to Costco to fuel up and on two different occasions I got compliments on my Type-S.

1st occasion was a older guy driving a Honda pilot who walked up and asked me “is it fast?” I replied “fast af” we continued the conversation and I found out he had his pilot for a good few years and was ready to switch over to Acura so I recommended he look at an RDX A-Spec or MDX A-Spec/Type-S

2nd occasion was a younger guy with a ‘07-‘08 TL Type-S in Silver he rolled up and while we was in line for gas he commented “that Type-S goes hard bro! I would’ve gotten one but the weight it’s heavy” I told him “with the SH-AWD you don’t really feel the weight too much and it’s still a quick sedan for sure!”

Something tells me he didn’t buy a TLX-S for other reasons though lol
Spoiler

His TL Type-S ^^^^

I was at Costco to get some groceries earlier this month and after I parked a guy and his girlfriend were walking by and she commented on how pretty the color was and so did he. He also went on to tell me that he considered this car and I asked what stopped him from getting it but he kinda brushed off that question lol

My favorite scenario recently was when I was leaving work last week, a couple teenagers in a ‘02-‘03 3.2TL w/ a loud exhaust was going by as we were all in traffic on the highway and when they realized I was in a Type-S the kids lost their mind

They loved my car and asked me how much it cost I told them $60k+ they was like “DAMNNNN”
of course the next question was “how much you pay a month?” I replied “alot” they loved the color and the exhaust pops as I played around just alittle with them once traffic cleared up. (but I really wanted to tell them “more than you can afford pal” )

Smile Ridiculous Blue Car

I have received a few compliments on my 21 Type-S. While dining at a local restaurant, I overheard an elderly lady say to her party: "Some ridiculous blue car parked in my space."

That's a keeper.
