I did receive a fair number of compliments when I had my TLX and I suspect it's because it looks more like an "American" car than a Japanese car (more in common w/Charger and other big sedans?).

The only other car I received compliments on was a newer Black Chrysler 300 rental. Go figure!

Not sure if it looks American at all. The new TLX looks a lot more like Audi A7 from far and it has very Japanese look from close. I believe the TLX has very good road presence. Extremely wide, low and long. It gives a more expensive/luxurious look than actually it's.

Agreed, the height-to-width ratio is very aggressive, you'd actually have to go a few classes up to find a sedan that tops the TLX's ratio (eg. Maserati Ghibli).

Very mean look. In fact, I think the TLX Type-S is the meanest look vehicle in the entire Acura lineup.

The hood and bumper in particular reminds me a lot of the Dodge Charger the way it doesn’t go flush against the grill. Especially in white it reminds me of rental Chargers. The area on the bumper before the headlights and grille.

I guess look is subjective. I respect your opinion. but I can tell you majority people will say TLX is the best looking car out there. It beats A-Z in the segment and more. Acura nailed it with the design. It should win car of the decade award if not century

Cool 60s Muscle Car

As an old fart who was there at the time, my Type-S reminds me of the 60s muscle car genre.

Gorgeous as well. But now it looks a bit old. I would say it's second, right after TYPE S. Giulia is very Italian and has very unique design which makes it an awesome looking car even after few years in the market without any major changes.

That's awesome. That's why i say TLX is so special...remining you of the 60s muscle car is a huge compliment. Thank god no one is saying it reminds me of Tesla

The most beautiful car in the industry is made in USA and looks like one. Well done Acura for creating the most amazing and beautiful machine in a very competitive market. And we have to give A+ to the designers as everyone sees a different style. That's a huge compliment to the Acura team for attracting all kind of buyers.
Hope Acura doesn't change the outside with MMC. this car is so awesome that I am scared they change something and it screws it.

You nailed it!

So true! Also, it's good to see Acura is coming up with these amazing sedans while the industry is discontinuing them. I mean look at the Teggy TYPE S...Acura doesn't get enough credit for producing industry's best vehicles. People are worried about digital gauges and ambient lighting hahahah! They are forgetting that Acura is giving you TLX TYPE S and Teggy TYPE S. Best in both segments!

I bought my wife a 2023 Giulia Veloce and I like to “think” we’ve got two of the best looking sedans money can by in one driveway 😂. Also, the Honda product that looks most like a Charger is the last body-style Accord. I had a 2018 Touring for 3 years and the front end surely did remind me of a Charger at times. Not the rest of the car though. Last but not least, I got the first two compliments on my Type S yesterday arriving to and leaving my daughters gymnastics class. Literally went from no compliments to double in a day.

Thanks! I wouldn't say one drives better as they drive "different". The Giulia is RWD only and a much lighter, smaller car so it drives very nimbly and flickable. The TLX has a more solid planted feel and the steering feels a little more dialed in. Plus, with the Giulia being a 4 cylinder and the TLX a 6 there is a different feel to the acceleration as well. Plus, for all the slack the Type S gets for straight line acceleration, it was still a litter faster than the Alfa in stock form. Funny thing is no one ever bashes the Alfa about it's acceleration and the MSRP on both of our cars was within $600 of each other. All in all, both are a blast to drive with character for miles. Both have intangibles that need to be driven to realize, not just looking over specs on a computer.

I don't really know if that's as supportive of the Type S as you think it is, considering that 2.0L in the Giulia is still the base engine. I should hope that the Type S is faster, considering that the Type S motor is one level higher, so for it to only be a little faster is probably more of a burn than it is praise.

I don't take it that way. The TLX is much heavier and uses an AWD system that saps more power. In stock form they are only rated at 75hp difference. Plus, I think it's very fair to compare performance specs when they cost the same amount of money. They are both Sport Sedans in the mid $50K range. Plus, sure, there is the Giulia Quadrifoglio (the sales person tried to get me to buy it instead of a Type S) but it's $90,000 so not even in the realm of a comparison with a Type S as far as performance goes. I'd venture 95% of Giulia owners have the "base" engine.

If your basing it on the price, then you could also spec up a regular TLX Advance to be around $55K which is right where the Type S sits, and I don't think anyone would be saying that it's fair to compare the regular TLX with the Type S. For that matter, the A4, 330i, etc. can all be spec'd up to where the Type S sits in price, so to compare them with the Type S is kind of like me comparing myself to a bunch of 6th graders playing basketball. Sure I could beat them...but what does that say about my skills (or lack thereof)?

Yup, and that's the rabbit hole. At the end of the day it's all subjective. I cancelled an order on an RS3 after one test drive of my Type S. I listened to all the internet chatter about how "terrible" the Type S was as far as straight line acceleration and dismissed it before giving it a shot. The Acura dealership was behind the Audi dealership so I figured I had nothing to lose. Plus, I knew as soon as a simple stage one tune for $600 came out it would remedy the biggest gripe people have with the Type S. As soon as I get my exhaust installed I'll run some dragy times to see what it comes in at but I'm ball parking mid 12's pretty easily. Couple that with the prodigious low end torque the Type S makes down low and this is a perfect daily driver for ME, maybe not others.

Well said! That said, I am glad you enjoy both cars and as mentioned earlier, you got the best two cars out there Enjoy!

Do you have a tune to go with the exhaust? IIRC the Type S is a mid-to-high 13s car. It does feel faster than that on the streets thanks to the low end torque, but unfortunately it runs out of steam at the top end which is where you're at most of the way through the quarter mile. An exhaust isn't going to be able to shave a full second off.

Yes, KTuner Stage 1 tune. It absolutely does NOT run out of steam at the top end anymore like it used to. Literal night and day difference from stock. As an added bonus my MPG's have gotten better too.

Nice! Stock run seems a little fast, the tuned run seems in line considering he was on the brakes some. The trap speed seems to confirm that he was on the brakes too. I figure with a DP/Exhuast/Tune combo it should be an easy mid 12 second car, maybe low 12's and I'm totally fine with that for the price and everyday driving.

Interesting that person was able to shave off half a second from the MT, C&D, MW, and AHC times. Perhaps the near freezing temps and slight decline contributed?

That’s a good question, there’s a few other members in FB that also ran 13.10 on 93 in Sport+/ S mode. It makes me wonder if the journalists used S mode on transmission as it makes a huge difference in shift times and overall launch.

I’ve managed a 13.36 @ 103mph in stock form using a draggy; this is on 91 octane.


i now have a JB4 but have yet to record a run to see the improvement.

I was getting gas at Costco this past weekend, and the guy on the next pump over asked me what car I had and how I liked it (‘21 TLX A-Spec in Performance Red Pearl, with tinted windows).

He said he had an Acura TL for years and before selling it and getting his Lexus NX, but really liked the way the new TLX looked (I don’t disagree with him, especially in PRP which really accentuates the design of the car).

Yeah lets revive this thread, i got some interesting compliments to add.

A co-worker claimed I must pull all the girls in this "sexy ride" haha too which I said "its just a sausage fest at car meets for other acura owners"

At a car meet the other night and literally had a long conversation with a photographer who wanted to buy a Type-S said its "The Type-S is sick and Acura is stepping up their game with these aggressive looking cars they're putting out."

I had a guy in what looked to be a 2021+ TLX Advanced that was breaking his next to look at my Type-S as I drove by, he even attempted to race with me too which I obliged since it was pretty light traffic on that particular day. Dusted him with ease! haha

TBH, it sucks that the sedan market is doing horrible. Acura got a beautiful car, but it's a tough sell. For sure the TLX isn't perfect but regardless it has a lot of great features and sick look.

I am sure people will miss it if Acura decides to go EV and discontinue the TLX.

What I think is that, the cars costs have gone up much higher than before. The young generations can't afford them and the ones that can are going to the more premium brands. The dang dealerships also play big parts in markups as well.

New(er-ish) member.. seen this thread decided to join and comment. My first Acura was a 2018 3.5L TLX-A-Spec. Beautiful car with alot of added features by the previous owner. It use to draw some attention at gas stations, etc and as I live in a smaller town, where people drive more domestic models, it also use to get quite a bit of attention there too.

I traded up for a 2023 TLX Type S and have caught people taking pictures of it on parking lots of gas stations, stores, the local swimming pool. Had young dude in another lane at an intersection yelling to me asking what kind of car it was. When I told him he was thoroughly impressed.

My car draws ALOT of attention, even in the more urbanized settings (where I work) as well. I always get "hey, nice (expletive sometimes) car! I have had people ask me to take pictures, I always ask them to not get the license plate in it is all.

Its a beautiful piece of machinery and constantly gets looks no matter where it goes.
