Parking Situation!

Hey all,

Do any of you keep your TLX parked outside year-round? If so, do you remote start your car in the winter? I have always had garage parking, but this year we have my wife's car and two snowmobiles in the garage. So, it looks like my Type S is going to be outside most of the winter. With that being said, have you had any issues with the vehicle starting in single-digit temperatures? How long does it usually take the car to warm up if remote started?

I am going to invest in some de-icer spray as well! Any other recommendations? I do have a Snobrum which works awesome removing snow!

Thanks!

Millions of people park their cars outside during winter experiencing zero issues starting the car. Unless it’s a diesel from early 2000s I don’t believe you’ll have any issues.

I never had a problem with remote start and its great. I wait around 10 minutes or so before I get into the car. It doesn't take long to warm up inside the car, not sure how long because I never timed it lol.

My experience with my other Acuras is they warm up about 2-3 degrees per minute. And the remote starts only run 10 minutes so on really cold days you may need to do it twice.

We remote start the cars routinely once the temp drops below 60 degrees or is higher than 80 and have had no issues. I usually don't bother wearing a thick winter coat much since the cars are already warm, only really wear them if I know I'll be outdoors for a while.

My wife likes putting on snow covers (like sunshades but they go on the outside of the windshield and rear glass) when she knows it will snow, to prevent the need to brush and scrape the windshield. Quick peel and shake off and we are on our way.

Just be sure you have a security camera and/or flood lights for your driveway. Many of our fellow Canadians have lost their cars according to this thread:

OP! Take all the preventive measures to protect you car. RX350, Rav 4, CRV, and RDX are targeted. Tlx wasn’t on the list but now I read a few messages about tlx as well.

This Saturday, I read a Escalade got stolen in my area.
