remote starter for 6speed?? good or bad idea??

yeah i'm interested. tired of waiting to warm up my car during the winter months. i've heard, in the long run, thats it just bad to have a remote starter for a manual trans. don't know how true this is, but does anyone have any input??

also, are there certain acura dealerships that would do it??
whats the best brand out there?

My guess would be the dependace on the parking brake to actually hold the car.
It it failed and you were in Nuetral, small slope, sounds like an insurance commercial!

Bad idea.

1) Leave car in gear, accidentially hit remote start, car drives away without you in it.

2) Leave in Neutral, Parking brake lets go, car drives down the hill without you in it.

Valet dummies, service dummies, and our idiot friends are all subject to trashing your car.

funny story: well not funny: my brother had a 91 integra. got a remote start illegally put on his MT by his friend... the dumbass forgot the brake, rolled down our driveway, across the street, up the curb, and into our neighbors (across the street) font lawn.

What could be funny for other people, but not him: he let this happen TWICE....

woulda been real bad if a little old lady decided to stop and smell the roses... because theres no way she could have fended off a rolling vehicle...

thats my

One of my roommates in college installed a remote starter on his MT nissan pickup, so I know it's possible to do. The only thing is that you HAVE to remember to use the parking brake EVERY TIME and you also HAVE to remember to put the shifter in neutral EVERY TIME. If you forget either, even once, it would be disasterous. If you think you can remember to do it every time, without fail, for as long as you own the car, then go for it.

there are remote starters for manual transmissions, basicaly you wont be able to start it in gear because it has to be running with the park brake on when you leave the car then shut it off. once a door is open, u have to do the sequence again.

if your hand brake fails then u should get your car checked cuz i havent seen one fail yet. (or u just got a crappy car)

if anyone has any questions, gimme a shout, im an install trainer here in bc.

Don't you have to step on the clutch before starting the car, or does the remote starter override that?

Clearly the remote start overrides the clutch switch. Lowendz has a good point there; if you can set up your remote start in the way he describes, then you wouldn't be able to leave your car, shut the door, then turn the engine off unless it was in neutral.
