Just a winter complaint...

I'm starting to hate winter already. I hate having to wake up early in order to warm up/defrost the car, but I equally hate just hopping in my car and taking off immediately without giving the car time to warm up. Not to mention freezing until the heater warms things up. Considered a remote start, but don't know if I want to invest $300+ in one. It also seems like new rattles are appearing in my car... I guess the cold is causing things to shake/rub against each other. I'm dreading the snow, ice, and salt because I have to park my car outside.

On the bright side, I enjoy my seat warmers and can't wait to see how my new Conti DWS's do in the cold/snow. Thanks for reading. Stay warm.

remote start is like a buck fifty, it would be nice if they could program the oem key to work with it. I am contemplating this move too, and I need some new tires.

You can use the factory remote to control the remote start. Most of them have an activation input wire (at least DEI units) and you can set the activation pulses. So for example you could hook the activation input to the lock wire in our car and set it to 3 pulses. Lock the car 3 times and it will start right up. This is provided that both the activation input and the lock are negative pulse, but you could always change the polarity with a relay.

Just the driver side.

the passenger side has an airbag deployment route through the seat back.

Funny story...we all like to play pranks right? my friends and I would activate the seat warmers while the other wasnt watching during hot summers.

I would get hot as hell in 2 mins...while my friend didnt know his was on!!!!! wtf!?!?! stupid seat back warming mine up faster than his!!!!!

Yeah, I use the seat warmer prank all the time. It's a good one. I try to distract the person for a while after I do it so they work up a little butt sweat before they notice they're cooking.

Unfortunately, I'm not willing to move to make my morning routine warmer.

I'm interested in hearing a little more about the remote starting and the factory key FOB. I can get the remote starter+install for around $150?

Up here Canadian Tire has a remote starter that goes on sale for 99$ quite often. Works on AT or Manual apparantly, been thinking about it a few times but haven't made the purchase. I did look at the wiring diagram for connecting it all up and that put me off.

Tim, snow flurries on Halloween in Buffalo is just the beginning. You know what is coming next; drifts, ice, salt, slipping and sliding, wipers slamming the windshield, rust etc.

Tom

I was waiting to read "so we detonate the airbag while friends are sitting in the passenger seat."

I like the winter.

Gives me a good excuse to drive slow so people can check out my ride and I can save gas.

I'm dreading winter. Roads by my house take forever to get plowed, makes for a fun commute to school until I get into town.

Got snow tires last month though. Oh and rattles seem to be popping up in my car too with the colder weather. Grand.

does anyone have any clue to how a remote start would work with an 6MT? never heard of anyone doing it. I usually leave my car in gear as a force of habit.

Remote start on MT...
leave it in gear, it will run away from you!

I'm also reading that there is an exit procedure.
you have to keep the engine running, take out the keys, close the door and arm the system.
if anything disrupts this procedure(opening any doors, or hood after the car is armed) the car will not start via remote.

I went from letting the coolant hit full temp in the driveway to letting it idle for a minute and then driving. I have a few miles through the neighborhood so it's 25mph and 1,200rpm, the perfect warmup procedure. It's very easy on the engine and it gets hot over twice as quick.
