Why does my heater sound like a chimp?

Or maybe a snowy owl? When ever I switch from front defrost to any other setting it makes this noise. I have attached a Youtube video of it.

My 2013 Accord would make a somewhat similar howling sounds when the air compression was on. It was probably less noticeable than that though.

It's cold here so heater is always running. No such noise. I would guess the fan needs an adjustment or lubrication, but that's a wild shot in the dark. Or there really is a small chimp trapped in your vent.

LOL, that's hilarious. I would take it back to the dealer and let them deal it with. Be warned that once they rip your dash apart, your car may never be the same. Rattles and more rattles galore.

Take it in, but let us know what they say. Sorry that you have this, but should be an easy fix.

Changed opinion; looks like some of the vent baffles are sticking when you change modes, sounding like a squacking turkey.

If you close your eyes it almost sounds like you're on a beach with seagulls. I'll see what they say Friday.

I have a black tlx sh-awd tech edition (Canada) and I have the exact same issue. Temperature is currently -20 so I assumed it was due to the cold. Let me know what the dealer says. Thanks.

The dealer had the car for a week and took apart the entire dash and replaced the heater core assembly and the components surrounding it. The first one they put in said that it made a helicopter noise so they over nighted a second unit. The second one was defect free and the quote to do the job was $3,000usd if it was out of warranty due to the labor. They brought it to a professional detailing service because the interior was such a mess after they were done.

Glad it got taken care of! But $3,000 if it was out of warranty? Good GRIEF!

Mine is in the shop right now for the "hellicopter" sound. They told me it's the fan blower, and being replaced today. (it was on backorder for about 4 weeks. Finally parts came in, and work being done today). I hope this solves the problem. It's really annoying. And only happens when the vents are blowing to the floor.

Mine also makes the squealing sound when turning off the heating system. I have decided to live with it because I don't want my dashboard taken apart to fix it. I had that done on a previous car and my car was never the same after that, with more squeaks, buzzes, and rattles, and some of the switch actions didn't feel or work quite the same. If the squeaking/squealing doesn't get worse, I'll live with it.

^^ You are VERY wise to leave your dash alone. I agree that no local dealership can dismantle and reassemble a dash better than directly from the assembly plant.

No issues here with the re assembly but I'm keeping an ear out for anything. They did say it was the first time anyone there has taken apart a tlx, let alone twice. If you can live with a defective part in your dash then I wouldn't have them do anything but since it is under warranty i would consider it. Heck, they gave me a 50,000 MDX loaner so they could have kept my car longer if they wanted to.

I'm also in a 2016 MDX Loaner right now also. Frankly, i would have no problem if they need my car for a month. This thing is amazing!
