Trunk Keeps Opening Itself

My trunk keeps opening itself, randomly. It has happened a couple times now, and my key fob is not in there. Have no clue why, anyone else had this happen?

When I had knee surgery a few months ago, I was getting into my car differently and found that on many occasions, I had hit the trunk release button while getting in. Not sure where/how your situation is happening.

No sure what you mean about the fob location but I occasion open my truck with a butt release on the fob button when I sit down.

I just meant that the trunk isn’t opening because the fob was inside. I still haven’t figured it out, maybe I am accidentally hitting the button, idk.

My 2013 Accord EXL used to have that problem - the trunk would pop open while I was driving on occasion.

Try turning off the trunk release using the switch in the glovebox until you get it checked by a dealer. That should kill any accidental button push open of the trunk. If it still opens then it might be something with the latch.

I’m not an expert on the matter, but in the movies, they often tie them up BEFORE they put them in the trunk.

It's a combination of the button's location and its hair trigger activation. It's too easy to hit with a knee when getting into the vehicle. They should have made it a press and hold type switch.

It is a real pain. I think I have the same problem. I walk to my 2021 TLX after working all day and see my trunk has been open...apparently ALL DAY! I wake up in the morning and look out the window... and again my trunk was open... all night apparently! But if I stand in front of my car and push the fob button I have to hold it for a couple of seconds for it to activate. This sounds like a known problem because I have seen many similar posts. Who needs this nonsense? Does Acura have an answer? Not good!

my trunk on my 2019 Acura ilx is doing the same thing, neither of my key fobs trunk release buttons are working so it isn’t and accidental button press. I find my trunk open nearly every morning, at first I thought theft but all my valuable tools like a Milwaukee impact and skill saw are still there, so it also isn’t a break in. I’ve come to suspect that the trunk latch isn’t secure enough to endure the cold, the metal shrinking in the cold might be the issue but I haven’t confirmed this, it’s just a theory since I live in cold Canada and it happens mostly at night when it’s coldest.

Im having the exact same issue, I’ve come to suspect that the cold is shrinking the metal just enough to let the unhook itself. Acura has no answers, and in the city of Calgary the two dealerships are the biggest scammers I’ve ever come across with the worst customer service I’ve experienced. I’ll never be buying Acura again.
