Trunk opens by itself - twice!

First time, it happened when it was parked. I came back, and the trunk was open. I though it'd been broken into, but nothing was missing.

Second time, the trunk popped open while I was driving.

I'm about to leave it parked for a week while I go on vacation, and I'm a little worried.

This ever happen to anybody??

I don't think the trunk release works while the car is in drive..

If you're really worried, tie a 5lb bar bell weight to a string or rope and hook it to the little slit in the trunk lid, That should hold the trunk down until you can get it looked at.. even if it does pop open it will appear closed or if you attach a heavy enough weight it might not even open.. to get it open later just pull up on the trunk and then pop the trunk with your keychain.

I would get that looked at...

My car does, I think it is normal or at least I hope it is. Check to see if the latch is loose.

just disconnect the power latch cable while its parked... you can still open the trunk when you get back via the emergency trunk release... thats assuming that the power latch is whats opening it, not the latch itself thats got a problem...

Check the latch and make sure that the latch is functional... some latch only a part...

errrr I was not referring to that. I had quoted something which that ResidualFreedom had said: "I don't think the trunk release works while the car is in drive..."

so like it said, u can open your trunk when the car is in drive or even moving for that matter.... if you press the button on the door.

Well, I just switched off the trunk release in the glove compartment, and it's okay now.

I've got to take my car in for a recall thing, I guess I'll ask them then.

But I don't think there're any ghosts in the car!

Do you have a system in the trunk? Ive had that happen to me before also, the spring in the latch came off. When you close it, it closes but comes back up. The spring just needs to be put back in where it belongs. The bass from the subs make the spring loose and fall off, but thats if you have a system, but your trunk just might be defective. Good Luck
