Steering Wheel Clicking
Steering Wheel Clicking
Yesterday with the radio off, I noticed a sort of clicking or spring type winding sound when turning the steering wheel during parking. Never noticed before since radio is always on.<br />Wondering if you got any noise on your 2018's too? Sound is just coming from around the steering wheel area.
I was able to bring it into the dealer for a tech to listen. I replicated the winding sound easily and the tech concluded right away it's normal, and he's heard the same on other models of Acura too. He says it's likely some plastic inside causing it and even replacing with a new steering wheel may end up being the same result. So we'll just leave it as it's not audible with radio on anyway.
The clicking from the steering wheel is not normal as your tech suggest. I had the same issue with mine. Every time you turn the steering wheel left and right, there is a rub/clicking sound underneath the steering wheel. He is correct about being a plastic inside that is loose and causing the rub. My dealer adjusted/fix the plastic inside that came loose and the clicking went away. So it can be fix.
I'm experiencing the same noise with my 2020 TLX. (For what it's worth I've heard similar noises in other cars.) Dealer says there is a spring that holds some of the internal steering wheel wiring that is likely causing the noise. It's not really a problem, but it isn't "normal" either. It's going in later this week to have the spring replaced or repaired.
