oil type?

Hey guys,
The Accord and the TLX, both 2.4, pretty much share the same filter and everything else right? Just curious about the oil type since I am soon due for one. Do I have to go to an Acura dealer for the oil change or can I just stick to any Honda dealer? Can I use the 0-20w semi-synthetic that Honda dealership offer? Since I'm gonna change every 5k, no need for full synthetic right? ?

I don't know if they share the same everything. The engine codes are different, but it might be because they have different heads. I'm not sure. They are the same block though, the Accord is the K24W and the TLX is the K24W7.

You do NOT have to go to an Acura dealer for the oil change. Assuming you live in the USA, your warranty is fine as long as you can prove the work was done as far as I know. A Honda dealer would be totally okay.

The most important thing is that you use the correct weight of oil. If the manual says it needs 0w20, use 0w20.

I just change my oil when the maintenance minder tells me to. Sometimes I drive hard and it requires a change sooner, or in harsher conditions (ie: dead of winter). I would go by the maintenance minder rather than just blindly going every 5k no matter what. I think the maintenance minder assumes you are using semi-synthetic.

Thanks youngTL. I guess I should've ask properly lol. What I'm trying to find out is if Honda dealer offer the same 0w20 semi-synth as Acura dealer, or do Acura 0w20 is full synth only? Didn't call them yet, want to see what you expert would recommend =)

the 0w20 is a synthetic blend. Honda will probably have the same oil and filter as Acura considering they have the same engines.

Around here, Acura and Honda dealers charge about the same for service.

Cool, that's what I am trying to figure out. For my local honda dealer, they're charging 36 buck +tax for 0w20 semi (for my old accord), and I am hoping to get the same price for the TLX. Acura dealer charging 59 buck +tax for the semi-synth as well, and I have to drive 5x the distant. Even if it the same price, I might as well take it to the honda dealer. Thanks ya'll for the info =)

I normally do those small things myself with my 1995 Accord. But since I got the new 13' Accord, I been going to the dealer and have them change it. For 36 buck and a free car wash and vacuum, might as well be lazy lol.

I'd have someone else do it for $36 that's for sure. You know they're going to inspect it too, which is nice. Honda sounds worth it too if you don't have to drive as far.

Yup! I hope they wont jack up the price since it's an Acura instead of an Accord.

Honda dealerships won't jack up the price, if you go to Acura you pay the Acura price
