Oil Seeping???

Popped the hood to check the oil and top off the windshield fluid and noticed what looks to be oil (or something) on the top of the engine cover??? I looked closely around and didn't see evidence of any moisture anywhere else. I wiped it down with some all purpose cleaner and will check in a few weeks to see if it re-appears - not sure what to think of this.

The V6 has a plastic removable cover and mine seemed coated protective oil. Had to wipe and wash my hands after removing the cover. It was not a visible as shown in the photo, but oil tends to flow down not up, o would be surprised if it returned after a few weeks.

What concerns me is that this wasn't there the last time I checked the oil - a month ago. Given that oil tends to flow down as opposed to up how would oil end up on top of the cover?

Got my TLX in September and I still have never opened the hood.

Maybe today, if I can remember.

Unless smells like gas, that would've evaporated usually. Looks like some oil leakage from maybe the Positive Crankcase Ventilation system or other oil breather up there somehow. Then again maybe from the fuel supply rail?

I didn't think to smell it. The car hadn't been run for for at least 15 hours.

I took her out for a 15 minute round trip drive to the Home Depot and popped the hood upon my return. No moisture and no gas smell. Will keep an eye on it.

I have the same issue on my 2.4 DCT with 3,500 miles which I picked up in mid-August. I will ask my dealership about it this week when they perform the Nav/Radio update, Cross Alert TSB and the HVAC temperature issue that was started on a different thread on this site.

Thanks.

Picked mine up on Sept 4th and it's got 3,800 miles on it now - sounds like we're in the same boat.

With engine vibrations and air currents under the hood warm oil can end up up, down, left or right. Hopefully there's an easy explanation and not a real oil leak.

Aye - I'll be popping my hood every couple days to see if it re-appears. Curious where it's coming from. I suspect things like that don't happen for no reason and eventually I'll be visiting the service dept.

It almost looks like something that dripped from the underside of the hood. The pattern is different on both cars so it looks like the source isn't exactly the same.

That spot by the red tab above the logo would be an ideal place to rest your coffee with extra cream when you do your morning TLQ of a new TLX........

The 1st one looks like a real leak.

The 2nd pic looks more like someone pulled out the dipstick and drips of oil went all over the valve cover.

Update 1.10.15 - one week elapsed

Popped the hood today after driving about 150 miles last week - no signs of anything on the engine - looks perfectly clean. If it is leaking it's a pretty slow one.
