LKAS stopped working

At first, I thought the Lane Keeping Assist feature was a waste but I found myself using it a lot especially when I needed to open a bottle of water or something. After awhile, I used it often.

A couple weeks ago I notice it simply would't lock on to the lanes. If it did lock on, the car would bounce left and right making it totally unsafe. I took it to the dealer on 6/19 and they had it over the weekend and gave me an answer today, on 6/23.

Apparently, the camera had slipped out of place so it can't read the lines. There is no easy fix, as they have to replace the front windshield! And of course they don't have it in stock so I'm looking at 6/26 at the earliest.

I had my V6 Tech since 9/1/2014 and currently have 14k miles. No other issues except the jerky transmission but mine doesn't seem as bad as others. The adviser said they applied the latest update so hopefully that helps.

I have grown to like LKAS the most of all the "sensing" features. removes camber drift at highway speeds. Not what it is designed for, but does reduce a degree of driver effort.

Laziness is the key to invention.

Mine has never worked reliably. Driving at highway speeds on same stretch of road at same time of day, sometimes it will pick up lines briefly, most of the time nothing. It isn't a big enough deal for me to bring it in just for that issue. Surprised at the work required to fix your problem. I'm taking mine in next week for first service, will report back on what they say about my LKAS.

Why would they design it so if it goes bad, the windshield has to be replaced? Seems crazy

I thought the same thing. The adviser showed me the module, it is removable and even has some text on there that says LKAS may not work properly if out of place. Then he showed me the two small adhesive strips that are supposed to keep the bracket in place on the windshield. He even added, although I am the first one he has seen with this issue, him and the technician suspect more will follow since that adhesive may fail if it is hit with a bunch of direct sunlight.

He said that if they glue it in place, it won't work properly since it has to be installed and calibrated at the factory. I'm glad it is under warranty but years from now that will be a $600 to $800 repair.

Just to let everybody know, I'm not complaining about this because I know sh*t happens. I love my car and am very happy with it. But for what I paid for it, I want to make sure everything is working as it should. Also, I wanted to start a thread so others can search if they are having the same problem.

Isbuffs, it does sound like yours is bad or out of place. If the lane markings are very clear, it will pick them up more times than not.

Got the car back this evening. The windshield has been replaced and LKAS is fully operational. I asked how much this would have cost if the car was out of warranty, and the adviser said close to $1000. The windshield was $576, add in labor and taxes and he is probably right. That really sucks.

They applied the TCM update for the transmission problems. Driving back from the dealership I could tell it made a big difference and I didn't get any jerkiness.
