Dirty windshield in direct sunlight
Dirty windshield in direct sunlight
I've got a 6 month old TLX and have discovered something in my early morning drives, now that I'm heading into low, direct sunlight. The windshield looks smeared and mottled when sun hits it, to the point that it's almost difficult to drive. But cleaning windshield inside and out, or hitting defrost, seems to make no difference. Could this be a defect in safety glass lamination?
Anyone else encountered this?

This is a problem in all the cars I've driven to date. The sunshine truly brings out the oils/ fingerprints on the windscreen. It is definitely not restricted to Acura only. Have you tried cleaning the interior with glass cleaning solutions & microfiber. I've found that using Kitchen tissue paper works well too. For defiant smudges you can also try alcohol pads (from CVS).
I've encountered similar situations. However, after a good car wash by professionals (including interior cleaning), the smears are mostly gone. I've discovered that I don't know how to clean the inside of a windshield.
I agree with Comfy.

I am not sure if you have tried this but when cleaning your interior windows, do not ever do them when they are warm....The cooler they are, the better the results with be.
Of course, I am not talking 20F cool! I think you guys know what I mean....

Invisible Glass is the best thing to use on the inside glass. OK for tint too. Much better than Windex.
On the outside you can use a polisher with a pad and compound specifically for glass. It gets rid of all that caked on bug and road crud. I've done this a few times and it really works.. for a while. But over time your windshield gets a thousand chips from small rocks and those reflect the light and short of a new windshield there is not much you can do about it.

The plasticizers in new car's interior evaporate and coat the glass. Invisible glass with MF that doesn't lint does a good job. The glass will eventually get less hazy with regular cleanings. I don't think it is a problem with your TLX.
Invisible Glass is the best one I've used
FYI: DON'T use it on DIRTY windshields, or windows; just smudges the dirt, & creates, a streaky appearance.
Either go to the Car Wash 1st; (don't let them clean the interior windows); their rags create oils & grime; after the Wash, use the Invisible Glass, & your windshield will sparkle.

Well I take this back a little. I do recall I had an unusually bad chip in my line of sight. I took a black Sharpie and colored in the chip. Counter intuitive, but the black sharpie knocks out the reflection and the black dot is so small you don't notice it. You have ti hit it again over time but this works.

Forget the glass you guys need to wear Polarised sun glasses. Polarized sun glasses will cut through all the glare. No kidding.
For the brightest glare grey color lens is best.
For better color definition use brown lens.
BTW Polarized sun glasses work so good at cutting the glare they will allow you to see under water... as in seeing fish if the water is clear. No joke, just ask any fishermen. Lol
