Automatic Headlights Sensor

So my TLX headlights seem to come on when it's the middle of a sunny day and a sparrow transits across the sun. I've got the sensitivity set to low, so my working hypothesis is that the sensor is dirty.

I just find it annoying that I've got my dark sunglasses on because it's so bright outside and yet _ANYTHING_ that casts a shadow on the car will trigger the headlights. Why bother with the fancy 5 light "half lights" if the 3 full headlights are on 99.9% of the time?

Those sensors need adjusting. I can go thru and 6 car length underpass without the main headlights coming on during daylight. And they work perfectly entering a lighted underground parking facility and turn as soon as I enter.

Ha! Mine would come on in anticipation of darkness ahead even though no darkness was currently present

Any idea how they are adjusted?

So I just re-read the manual, maybe I've misunderstood.

Auto Light Sensitivity Changes the timing for the headlights to come on. Max/High/Mid*1/Low/Min

Maybe I need to set it to max...i.e. wait longer before turning on the lights.

Max sensitivity sounds like it's more sensitive, but Max timing means wait longer. Hmm. Will have to try that today.

The way they word that setting is highly confusing, but at least in my car min=lights turn on less off. Think of it as Max= I want my lights on the MAX amount of time vs Min= I want my lights on the MIN amount of time

Well, sitting in the noonday sun today, I put mine on MAX and the lights instantly came on. I put them on Min and they went back out. I go under a tree for 2 seconds...ON. It's clearly out of tune somehow. If I could figure out where the sensor was, maybe I could clean it.

headlight sensors are usually on the dashboard near the wind shield, along where the defrosting vents are.

I seriously doubt yours is dirty

And you would be correct.

I sometimes miss the forest for the trees. I design, build, integrate and troubleshoot industrial printing equipment among other things. Sensors, PLCs, computers, I/O, you name it.

You'd think I'd notice my radar detector was mounted low on the windshield and shadowing the sensor.

Mine have been perfect. I have them set to max (that means headlights on as much as possible from what the previous posts say right?) and they seem to be doing there job right. They come on when I do things like pull in my garage or under a dark over pass and go off almost immediately after driving back into the sun. Very happy

I also find it very intuitive that you can not drive with your headlights off! The way the stalk bounces back to "auto" and you can only fully turn off all the lights when you are in Park is genius!
