2017 TLX SH-AWD engine dies when accelerating on highway

Several times each month while freeway commuting, I am driving 50,60, 70 mph and need to quickly accelerate, I press the accelerator, I hear a clunk in the transmission and the engine immediately dies, no throttle, RPM dropping to zero while I'm repeatedly pressing the gas pedal until about 3-4 seconds passes and the engine restarts..
I drive in ECON mode and sometimes have auto-stop disengaged, but mostly, I leave it alone.
I've heard while in ECON the engine may only be using 3 cylinders while driving a constant freeway speed.
I'm trying to put the pieces together to diagnose. I've seen that a throttle position sensor might be defective, but have not checked.
Does the onboard diagnostic computer record engine shutoff anomaly history that could show what is causing the engine shutoff?

I've owned and loved a '12 TL, 14' TL SH-AWD (the absolute best car I ever owned until some jackass hit me this summer and totaled it). This '17 TLX SH-AWD is more technically complex, so I'm looking for searching this site for help.
I could take it to a dealer for an intermittent problem, spends tons of money and still know nothing.

I would bring it to the dealer to diagnose an issue like that. Also, try and record it happening, or maybe get a dash cam so you always have recording and can show them. That is a safety issue I would bring it straight to the dealer

Hate to revive a dead thread, but this is the ONLY post I can find with the same exact issue I have. Did you or anyone else ever find a fix? Very troubling when I try to accelerate in traffic and my 17 tlx cuts power instead of accelerating.

Thought I was the only one with this exact issue. Coasting behind a slow car waiting to pass, only to have no acceleration. Did a Google search for the answer and found this thread and a recall that was issued two days ago.

I've been following that recall pretty closely. Unfortunately, I don't think it's the issue here. We'd be experiencing engine knocking etc. You're certainly not the only one with the issue, but that's definitely what I experienced.

You don't have a ktuner and improved throttle response flash do you? Just trying to eliminate some variables. I've tried a throttle body cleaning, many different throttle response mappings (including stock). It seems as thought the throttle is opening not as fast or faster than the computer expects based on input and the car is cutting fuel. If you continue to hold the throttle open the car goes into limp mode, this is how manufacturers avoid runaway from stuck throttles...

That's just my theory though, there are some fuel cut delay settings I intend to play with to see if increasing the delay can help...

But hey, maybe my motor will need replaced and that will solve the issue by proxy 😁

This recall is different from the idle stop recall from 2020. I have an appointment with the dealer on Friday to discuss the recall in detail, so I can reply back afterwards. I've done nothing to modify or clean the throttle body. I run in Econ mode, so maybe that is the cause but not a solution.

I have a 2017 TLX SH-AWD and the same thing happens to me only when driving in Econ mode. I don't use that mode anymore.

For all of those on this thread, I had the transmission fluid flushed and filled with new fluid about a year ago. Problem has not returned since.

My 2017 TLX v6 also does this in Econ mode exclusively. The dealership never was able to figure it out.
