TLX Start/Stop button

Question for the TLX owners. My brother-in-law has a 2015 Ford Taurus and he is having trouble getting the car to recognize his key fob. He can manually open the door with the physical key that comes with the key fob but has no way to start the car. My daughter's 2017 VW Golf STI does have a place to start the car should the start/stop button fail.

What is the situation on the TLX? Is there a way to start the car with the key if needed?

Put the fob up near the stop/start button. Probably your brother-in-law's fob needs a new battery. I know my 2015 has had its replaced. But the display should have said that the remote battery was low. Mine did.

Does putting the key fob next to the start/stop button work if the car does not recognize there is a key fob or it is not functioning?

If the battery dies in your Acura key fob, you can use the physical key to unlock the car. Then, placing the fob next to the start button, press the start button to start the car. The car will recognize the fob as being present, even if the battery is dead. None of the buttons on the fob will work, but you can at least start the car and drive to a store to buy a new battery for your fob.

Thanks for this. Great info. Both fobs on our 2015 TLX reported "low battery" within the past month. I replaced the battery on the Driver 2 fob (mine) one day and then the very next day it called for a battery on the Driver 1 fob (my wife's—it's her car). Yours truly made a major screwup when replacing the Driver 1 battery in that he somehow neglected to remove the protective backing from the battery before installing it, so of course the remote didn't work, which led to angry e-mails the next morning when the missus couldn't get her remote to work! (She tried to drive her other car, an RSX, but a foot injury made it too painful to operate the clutch, and she wound up going back in the house and finding the Driver 2 remote and using that. I discovered my mistake that night.)

I wish I had known this trick at the time so I could have told her what to do......
