Question Start / Stop Button

Was just look'in at the pics of the 2009 TL , noticed the new TL has one of those Start/Stop Buttons . This got me curious so went and tried a search on this but couldn't get any results. ( is search not working ) Anyway , I first saw a S/S Button on a BMW a few years back and thought there's a new gimmick on old technology . Back up until the 1950's cars had a start button . You turned a key to the on position , then used a push button to engage the starter motor. A technological marvel happened when they combined both and all you had to do was start your car with a key. NO MORE PUSH BUTTON ,,, what an advancement. Now, every body is coming out with push button start. Question .... Is there any new advantage to these things , do you still have to use a key as well, like before ...or is it just neat and trendy ta hear your engine roar to life by push'in a big red EASY BUTTON on the dash????

to get pretty good results, do a google search and put acurazine.com after the words you are searching on..i usually do that instead of the using the forum search to get about the same results.

Yes the search feature isnt working yet. It should be later today. I find it absolutely pointless to stick a key in the ignition then press a button to start it. Why add 1 more step. The only time it would be good is the keyless systems where you carry the card in your pocket/wallet and just get in the car and press the button.

I never understood the point of push button starts. Why bother sticking a key in and then push a button. Like fsttyms1 said, the keyless systems would be worth it but to put a key and still turn a key, why bother.

well pretty much all of the newer start/stop buttons dont need a key in the ignition.. they have a sensor that senses the chip in the key in your pocket and allows you to just start the car with a push of the button.. same thing with a lot of newer keyless entry systems.. a lot of them have sensors where if you get a certain distance from the car, it will unlock for you.. or they have the finger sensor under the door handle..

Why?

Right now its something new and different. Everybody wants something different.
Example- We all own an Acura TL BUT not 2 of them are the same. Everybody has something different, the push button start... Something different...
