Problems with subwoofer/bass after OEM integration using JL Audio FIX 86
I did a huge installation in my 2015 Acura TLX replacing the front door speakers, rear deck speakers, adding amps and integrating into the OEM system with a JL Audio FIX 86. For the most part, it turned out very well -- see here:
There's still some nagging problem with the sub and the rear speakers. If I include the sub input while calibrating the FIX 86, the sub signal is not strong enough. Even at max, I don't get anywhere near enough bass. If I eliminate the sub from the calibration process, the bass signal is much better, but then when I turn up the bass I gett popping sounds from the back, though I'm not sure if it's the sub or the rear deck speakers.
So after a bit of testing the speakers, this is what I found: The fader and balance controls are good, but there is strange behavior with the sub. If I set the fader all the way to the front and move the balance left and right, the subwoofer produces no sound at any point. As soon as I start fading toward the back, the sub kicks back in. Now, when I put the fader all the way to the rear, when I set balance all the way to either side, the sub completely stops. But as soon as I move one little bit to the center, the sub kicks back in, which doesn't happen at all in the front.
I have looked at wiring diagrams and I just don't see where the problem could be. Is the wiring diagram I used the wrong one? Am I missing something as far as using a common ground? I'm attaching what I used, along with a picture of my OEM amp connectors. I'd greatly appreciate any ideas.
Did you remove or disconnect the ANC? Does the issue change if doors or opened or closed? Or, talk to JL Audio?
From some Acura documentation: "The ANC works to cancel engine booming sound at low engine speeds. The ANC/active sound control unit receives the engine speed pulse (NEP) from the PCM and outputs a sine-wave-sound through the audio speakers to cancel low-frequency noise from the engine. The ANC system also uses a microphone to detect and monitor low frequency noise in the passenger compartment. The microphone feeds information back to the audio unit which adjusts the speaker output to reduce the noise. The ANC also receives input from the door open/close (INTR LT) signal from the MICU. Anytime a door is opened, the ANC system temporarily stops working. Each signals is sent to the ANC/active sound control unit via the F-CAN. The ANC/active sound control unit monitors the stereo amplifier output signals to the subwoofer, and if the subwoofer outputs a sound more than the rated value, the ANC/active sound control unit stops ANC control. This control is to prevent deleting bass of an audio output."
Yes, I did physically disconnect the ANC unit, which is behind the glove compartment. I forgot to mention that. When I first installed the system, I tried leaving the ANC on, but it did make some awful sounds, so I disconnected it.
If someone has access to the wiring diagrams, I'd really like to verity that the diagram that I used is the correct one. I have a 2015 Acura TLX, Advance package.
