Blown Sub and speakers?
Blown Sub and speakers?
hey guys,
I have a 04 TL with 45k on it...so my problem is that i belive my sub is blown. I don't really turn up the music that loud most of the time, maybe around 15-20 average but whenever i have a song w/ bass in it..all i hear is crackling noises comming from the sub and sometimes it comes out of the speakers. When theres songs without bass, everything sounds fine. Has anyone encountered this problem and is it a blown sub/speakers?

I'd try a little bit of troubleshooting to isolate which speakers are making the noises.
Pick a fairly long song with a consistent bass pattern that you know well, so that you'll know if something is wrong with the sound being produced by the speakers. Set the volume to the point where you normally hear the crackling noises and leave it there throughout the test.
Then go into the audio setup and first try turning the sub all the way down (to the 'off' position) and listen for the crackling noise. If its gone with the sub off, probably a blown sub.
If you still hear it, leave the sub off and fade the sound to each corner of the car, one at a time. This will allow you to listen to each speaker independently and tell which speaker, if any are blown.
Let us know what you find out.

I had the same problem. My sub was actually blown. I played around with the bass settings and sub-settings from the radio and realized that it was infact the sub. It was a real horrible rattling/crackling sound. I took it to 2 dealers and the 2nd dealer ended up replacing the sub no questions.
