Most cost effective way to improve sound - Non ELS

What's are some options for the most cost effective way to improve the sound on my base 2019 TLX with the standard audio system. I don't want to spend more then $1000? Would it be a amp and speakers, just replace the standard speakers? I don't want to mess with the stock head units. I'm assuming the base system has 6.5 components in the front, and 6.5 full range in the back with a 8" sub. Let me know if that's correct as well.

Thanks!

I'm not audiophile and certainly no expert, but speakers and amp would be biggest cost effective upgrade. You wouldn't be able to do much with the stock HU since there are other built in controls to tied to that screen such as your HVAC.

thanks I’m thinking the same, crutchfield advised there won’t be much gain just replacing the current speakers since they would have to be 2 ohm and the options are limited with those so a new amp is crucial to getting better speaker and sub options. Going to check out what Best Buy suggest as well. Seems like adding a amp really escalates the install cost from just swapping speakers

I do know the amp is what makes sound systems sound good. So of course they're going to throw in the cheapest amp possible in a base model. In my experience, I did speaker upgrades in a s2000 without an amp upgrade, not much of a difference. Clearer sound, but no extra kick.

Adding an aftermarket amp brings the cost of install up because OEMs don't put the amp in the most accessible spots and also with having to re-wire the speakers to the new amp. You do it right though and it'll all be worth the cost.

Unc2003 - Perhaps you've already done this (but haven't posted it here), but the first step might be to define what the End Result should look like. "Improving my sound" might mean different things to different readers/contributors. Some of these folks are well versed in audio upgrades but, to get the most out of their suggestions, it might be helpful to provide additional info. You've clarified your budget ($1,000 >) as a good starting point...

1) Are you looking for increased clarity of sound?
2) Do you want more "punch" in all ranges?
3) Do you want more bass?
4) Do you routinely crank up the volume?
5) Is the $1,000 the "final" all-in cost, or might you look at it as the 1st phase in a larger upgrade?
6) You've stated that you want to leave the head unit alone because of the likely connectivity issues. There are some companies that modify stock units with upgraded components (one is phantomaudiosound.com). Have you considered/ruled out this route?
7) Have you considered finding an ELS unit from another car?

Your "research first" approach is spot on. Good luck and lets hope that you get a system that meets your needs.

Thanks for the details, what's crazy is I just messed around with the current settings, mostly pumping up the bass from the sub and the sound is 100 times better, I know still not ELS sound but for now, I'm just sticking with the stock system. Also I'm happy there is zero rattle in the vehicle.

EDIT: Looks like this reply is a little late, but perhaps someone will find the info useful.

These guys provide an upgraded amplifier for the ELS system. Maybe they have something for the base system, too.
