TLX: Sept sales numbers
Honestly, I am little disappointed to see the TLX numbers. Only 2,908 cars sold in Sept 2016. YTD sales = 28,540. What's the issue? Is it related to the transmission?
Overall, Acura's sales are down this year. I compared to Infiniti and their sales are consistent comparing to last year but Acura will be at least 20,000 units down comparing to 2015. SAD!

2016* corrected.
Their SUV sales aren't great either....RDX is doing really well but MDX is slow. Anyway, 2015 was definitely a great year for Acura. Hope 2017 is better.

Whats the issue? HA
Issue is they are stuck in the past.... Or I would say, they downgraded 07-13 generation cars. Horsepower stuck at the same number like 10 years ago, even ford got more ponies now, but thats fine, just not for everybody.
Materials in current Acura cars went cheap, When I was driving loaner TLX, I felt like in Honda not Acura... I got money at this moment, but there is nothing in current Acura lineup for me, and believe me, I really want to spend money on NEW Acura.
Main issue for me, quality of interior MATERIALS....Gym mat soft dash doesn't translate to luxury in my eyes..

Actually RLX materials pretty good, they had to use same in the TLX and MDX. I would buy RLX Hybird, but it looks so vanilla, no soul, but nice drive train.

downgrade from 07-13? you gotta be kidding me. heres is the real problem. acura just havent kept up enough. its not that they downgraded. tlx materials are better than 4g tl materials, crap all over the 3g materials but compared to the current competition its not good enough. here is the thing, acura keeps the price increases to a minimum so you get what you pay for and thats their model. the real problems can be fixed. you want more power thats easy they can get 310hp out of 3.5L V6 and im sure 330hp out of a 3.7 would be cake for honda to engineer. design is the real issue. current acuras have zero sex appeal. too conservative. hopefully Ikeda can fix this.
Oh, my bad, I like floor mats better in TLX

Ahh - but could they make the TLX a tad more appealing. It only took them a tad over a decade to figure out the beak is fugly. Sure some people on the forums say it makes them distinctive, different, less common (nice way of saying unwanted IMHO). Might as well say the TLX has a "great personality".
Again this is just my opinion but the cheap KIA and Hyundai are better looking vehicles for the most part.

So tell the Honda engineers to fix the oil burning defect first, before even thinking of the 330hp 'cake'.

I see plenty of MDX's and RDX's but I've only seen a handful of TLX's over the past couple years.
Frankly I think the main problem with the TLX (not to mention the ILX - they sold 916 of them in the US in Sept) is they don't have enough separation from the Accord.
If you're shopping for a Lexus you likely don't cross shop it with a Toyota - the same can't be said for Acura/Honda. I moved up from an Accord and after driving my TLX for a couple years I can see the little differences in quality when compared to the Accord - however if you just do a cursory look at the specs and take the TLX for a quick spin around the block it doesn't BLOW YOU AWAY when compared to the Accord. In some ways the Accord is better due to newer tech (touch screen) etc. And the Accord is due for a model update next year which will make it even worse for Acura TLX/ILX sales. Not to mention many people are moving away from sedans to crossover vehicles and SUV's. Acura needs to poop or get off the pot!

I expect the same to happen to RDX sales when the new CR-V comes out next year.

Thinking back to family and friends that have owned 3G and 4G TL's, I really can't recall any of them saying they were crossing shopping 7G or 8G Accords at the time. But now the 9G Accord (especially in Sport trim) always seems to be in the conversation when the TLX is mentioned.
I think this is due in part to Honda stepping up it's game with the Accord, and I still feel that Acura shot themselves in the foot by combining the TSX and TL. IMO and that of other people I speak with, the TLX is a nice upgrade from a TSX, but not so much from a 4G. Also for the average person, it is difficult to tell a $32K entry level I4 TLX from a top of the line $45K TLX V6 SHAWD Advance, and I think this is one of the problems.

So based on YTD numbers... sales overall for all the brands listed are down... with the exception to the recently updated models. (A4, Maxima)
The TLX is somewhere mid-pack... like they have always been. So what the big deal??

Acura sedan sales are in so so shape....TLX has peaked last year, RLX is pretty much non existent, the ILX just limp along and it is not in potential A3 or CLA shopper radar.
The most exciting car in Honda lineup is the new Civic...really impressive in its segment.
The new Maxima is doing very well

I would not say that the 4G interiors are night and day compared to the TLX but they are noticeably better, especially the seats.

I heard the next 10th gen Accord will share the platform of new civic. it is because the civic chassis is good enough or Honda product manger is losing mind.
personal opinion, Honda/Acura, they have problem on their direction and also have hidden traitor in the company from competitors

Perception is reality
Perception is reality. The exterior design needs to be better. The attention to detail in the new Honda accord and civic design is superior to the Acura TLX (which I believe took 5 years to develop and is about twice the price). I have grown to love my TLX, it really is a gem, it offers good gas mileage, performance when needed, and a cushy quiet ride, I LOVE the rear Led's and how the rear lights roll in to the side profile is sick. But and this is a big but- when an accord or civic drive by I think, hmmm that exterior is really close to looking better than the tlx for half the price. They better come super hard with the next generation design. The problem is that all the car brands are making compelling cars. Generic brands are trying really hard right now and Acura is just not taking risks. I pray they have invested this time in platform architecture and drive trains otherwise I am jumping brands. Luxury cars are about a feeling...if I am spending half a house I NEED to love the way my my car looks, especially in comparison to the field, it's that simple.

no way I feel the TLX is an upgrade from a 4G, sure there are more features, but the TLX stepped into a time machine to 3G like materials. And as others have said they have not kept up. SH-AWD is the ONLY thing that got me into a TLX. Hyundai/Kia offer better features and almost comparable quality materials for substantially less. Then the infotainment is below par than almost all competitors. And of course the tranny sucks the life out of the car. Then add in stupid things like no real silver and some weak colors. Having a real pearl white like Caddy or Lexus would be nice as well as well as real silver.
