TLX city MPG
Compared to the outgoing TL, the TLX has the following:
1. Direct injection
2. Less weight
3. Start-stop technology
4. 9 speed tranny instead of 6
All of this and the city mileage increases by only 1 mpg?
TL V6 FWD: 20/29/23 city/highway/combined
TLX V6 FWD: 21/34/25 city/highway/combined

Also, only the SHAWD has start-stop. I think they included it there just to keep the SHAWD comparable to the FWD. If they included auto start stop on the FWD we might see some better city mpg

Like Stew said above, it's very hard to do better than 21 or so in the EPA's city cycle. For goodness sake, it's a high performing V6 sedan that gets 25 in the combined rating. That's pretty good for a NA, non-hybrid engine.

^ agreed. Even a Civic will have poor MPG if you have it idling all the time. You will need to get the hybrid TLX to see a more compelling change in city MPG.
While the highway mileage looks impressive it may save some drivers < $30/year in gas. For example, a driver who does only 4.5k highway miles /per year would save <$21 year with the improved highway MPG figures (I even factored $5.00/gal gas which isn't here yet)
I say I would be more worried about maintenance/tires, insurance and other issues instead gas mileage.

If you can afford a TLX, fuel cost probably isnt a big concern for you.

I don not fully agree. Why di I want to piss gas away, if I can get more features in a fuel economic car then I can get a better car for my total cost of ownership. Holding out the best features for V6 cars is clearly an American market thing in general where in other parts of the world the taxes on a car are driven by the displacement of the engine.Just because I can afford to spend 30% more on fuel does not mean I want to.

I agree. I can afford the car, but I hate to spend more than I need to on gas. I put on around 26000 to 30000 miles per year and although the yearly cost for the gas for a couple of mpg is not a budget breaker, it still bothers me. In CT we have the highest gas tax in the country so fueling up can be extra painful.

With that many miles per year it would bother me big time. It adds up, my A6 is averaging around 20MPG and over 9K miles I have spent over $1500 on fuel and it adds up quick. People don't really look at fuels costs because it is small amounts frequently vs. the big monthly payment. Besides I hate stopping to fill up, one reason why Acura pisses me off with their 17 gallon tanks, my last 2 cars were 20 gallon tanks and I can go close to 400+ miles on a tank even at 20-21MPG. My Acuras seems to get to maybe 300-325, so for me that is 3 more days between fill ups.

I agree with everyone there is a balance on this, but I want to reiterate the importance of hiway MPG. That's the place for most gains and the TLX certainly improves.

Without any energy recovery system, 21 city mpg is good.
I think Acura has the V6-9AT tuned for performance by default since an ECON setting is available via IDS for those wanting this.
Wonder how much ECON can improve this.
