There is a strange phenomenon that I have noticed with Honda and Acura enthusiast communications all over the Internet.
A minority will be somehow talked into buying a Cadillac CTS or XTS, or an Audi A6 instead of an Acura, or they'll get talked into a Camry instead of an Accord by a really good salesman on the other side.
And then they waste half their lives explaining and justifying their regrettable choice to their friends on the Honda and Acura communications venue.
It'd amuse me more if it weren't somehow sad and tragic.

Technology licencing may be preventing them from bringing the diesel Hondas to North America. Remember, Honda got the diesel technology for their European products from GM in exchange for the J35A3 engine for the Saturn Vue.

wow. Those are some pretty underwhelming pics. Like the 4g, unless right out of the gate you spend 3-4000 on a underbody kit and wheels, the car really doesn't really impress. In my opinion at least. 3G TL, even the base model made a visual impact, IMMEDIATELY. This doesn't.

Not sure I see that. I have ZERO regrets on my A6 and if there is not Type-S TLX in 2 years then I will gladly buy another A6. No salesman talked me into anything. I loved my Acuras, and would gladly come back, but they have to offer me something I want that is competitive.
Honestly, I don't think Diesel will ever gain any traction in the US. The fear-mongering campaigns of the past have tainted the attitudes and understanding of Diesel in the states. I can't begin to count how many times I've heard, "Oh, diesel is so bad for the environment with all that black smoke and they're so noisy, why would you pay more for that?" I've stopped bothering to respond. It's impossible to make people realize that VW Passat next to them at the light runs diesel and how far the technology has come. You can lead a fish to water....

Looks to me like VW might have hit a nerve, spending money on advertising 42 mpg highway and that they're quiet and smooth.

I am very curious to see how the VW and Audi diesels sound and drive. I test drove an MB GLK diesel recently and was reasonably impressed. However, when I test drove the BMW 328d just now, I was appalled by the amount of noise coming from the engine, though the power delivery was smooth and good. I was surprised by how few people talked about the noise from the 328d.

It also doesn't help that diesel is now the most expensive fuel you can buy at the pump. Doesn't matter to most that you can get far better mileage, it is the highest priced fuel.
But over years these will change, it will just take a long time.

I read recently that one of the new German "clean diesels" (I think a BMW) requires replenishment of the fluid that helps make the diesel "clean" at every oil change at a cost of about $100 a pop. If true, that might dissuade some buyers.

Honda developed a catalytic converter that manufactured urea upstream (no pun intended) and used it downstream in a 2nd converter. Thus the system was entirely self contained and all done 'in car'. I believe the EPA changed something in the (future?) regs after Honda announced the TSX diesel that made it not possible to use this tech in North America.

Acura posted a black one on their facebook page. I guess they just turned the color into a black and white photo.

The caption says "The official vehicle of perfect brackets…for now. #thenewTLX". Not sure what that means.

Adblue fluid is $7US a gallon. I don't think the diesel have 14/15 gallon additive tanks. My gas tank is only 16 gallons.

^^ I remember talking to a dealer (and it may have been Mercedes) where once every
15 000 km, they would need to fill this urea tank that automatically blends (or mixes) in. I am not to say that my figure was accurate but I recall not being overly excited by it....but I am cheap *lol*

Most systems including MB, Porsche, BMW, VW, Audi run about $11 worth, Walmart price, for every 10K miles. AutoZone gets $7 a jug. If any of my cars was a oil burner that would be about $11 per year per car.

2.5 Gal at Wal-Mart for $12. Not many MB owners shopping here I suspect. So they just take it to the dealer and pay the bill.

This wouldn't stop me from buying Diesel.

Guess you got tap danced or they charge a whole lot of labor to open & pour the jug.

^^ Congrats and nice wheels!! I hope Acura is seeing this, although I am sure they don't. It baffles me that they are don't care that they are losing customers, especially when their sales of the sedans is in free fall. Can they afford to lose any customers? Nope...but they are acting as if they can by not listening to the people that are trying to help them get back in the game. I can't wait to post pics of my next wheels here too although I am not what these will be. Keep us posted on your opinions and comments on your IS....Looks great! Congrats again.
I am almost tempted to do a screen capture and send these comments to Acura headquarters.....Just for shits and giggles

^^ I have been an Acura guy but most importantly, a dealer loyal fan....these guys where I buy my cars are simply amazing!! I hear ya on the MDX ... although some are having issues with it too. Happy to hear yours is problem free....

Thanks, yeah the fsport one is really an aggressive looking car the only reason why i didnt take the fsport was because of options and packages. There are no cooling or ventilated seats on the fsport and also no power adjustable steering column.

Same here always got the best deals from one dealer as repeat customer.

I'm amazed that some of you guys have already made up your minds on the TLX based on a few unflattering photos, and I bet the car in the pictures was the base 4 cylinder model too. Not to mention the model shown was not even the American model TLX.
Seriously?
Relax guys, patience is virtue.

Edit: Just saw your post in another thread. I'm not in a position to buy for a number of years, but my attitude would be the same as yours if I were in your position.

I'm hoping they'll release the hybrid IS in the US this year as I'm very tempted to get it. With any luck they'll improve the acceleration on the hybrid before they release it in the US.
