Not going to give Honda a shortcut on design as the AUDI designers now work for the Koreans.

The new Accord looks nicer in person that in pictures (except for the side view), but I don't know if it's nicer than the 2017 Accord. And the sloping roof line looks better on the Civic than it does on the Accord. On the Accord, it reminds me of a Hyena, which is not the prettiest of animals.

Aside: Accord is down significantly. I still think it's homely.

TLX isn't setting any records but steady as she goes.
The Accord on the other hand - those have to be very disappointing sales numbers for Honda.

I agree and to be honest, I'm quite baffled as to why the new Accord isn't selling better. It's an outstanding vehicle. I got the chance to check one out up close recently and it is impressive for its price point. I would proudly own one, in 2.0 Touring trim of course.

But look at the Pilot...I would have to think it's stealing some of the Accords dollars and the MDX's. I'm assuming there has to be some nice discounts on the ILX for it to have an increase

Beyond the enthusiast crowd I suspect the majority of Accord owners are middle-aged or older grocery getters who may be put off by the new styling. Maybe they'll gain some momentum in the Summer when the new-car itch hits a little harder.

What’s the average demographic for Accord buyers?

I was one of the people who was driving sales of of the 2013 Accord up - I thought it was great looking car and a great value. The 10th gen looks better to me than it did when they rolled it out but I would still never buy one.

Seems to match my expectations (re: Accord demographic). Though I wasn’t a first adopter,I loved the styling of the 9G and immediately couldn’t wait to swap out my 8G, ultimately getting a 14 Sport.
Just not feeling that way about the 10G. However, maybe Honda is shifting gears towards Millenials who may better appreciate the fastback styling.

For all you Audi A4 lovers who keep coming to this site and brag how well A4 is selling. A4 sold 2331 units last month. TLX 2794. Pretty awful number for A4. I don't care how you spin it. A4 is a flop. Those numbers are brutal for a generation that is only a year or two into production. Before you go into deep end as per usual TLX is also not selling well just like I stated before.

The graph compares A4 US sales to TL and TLX. If you consider the full range of cars on the Audi B9 platform (A4, S4, A5, S5, A4 Allroad) Audi sold 58,975 units in 2017.
I don’t think they are complaining.

Might be a logical progression TLX, A4, A5 & so on.

I’m going to go out on a limb and assume that the average Civic buyer is younger( and therefore less ‘traditional’) than Accord buyers. So they’re probably a bit more welcoming to such s styling departure than Accord buyers.
in terms of supply, dealers here in Central Jersey (Autosport, Open Road, VIP) have had plenty in inventory for quite some time now. However, the onslaught of 10Gs on the roads here is non-existent when compared with the 9G some five years ago.

Those of you who love data, this site has some pretty neat comparison tools:
US car sales analysis Q4 2017 - Premium Mid-sized segment - carsalesbase.com
This has a comparison chart, for example that breaks out the sales not only by individual model but also by model families (like the Infiniti Qs, and the Audi A4/A5).

Example most months BWM sells more coupes & convertibles then Acura sells TLX's some times by as many as 2,000 units.

Gee but everybody loved them with Acura was near the top.
CR's toaster test field occasionally used to test cars like the TLX.

Some very surprising numbers from the BMW 3/4 series forum. Current poll on lease or own.
Own 93 75.61%
Lease 30 24.39%
Thought it would be closer to 50/50.

I would also. Interesting. I wonder if it's because most folks on the forum are enthusiasts and thus may tend to own, and those that have a BMW just for status reasons (and don't frequent the forums) tend to lease. Wonder if the actual ratio is out there somewhere? Seems like most of the BMW drivers (newer models) I know lease.
Maybe someone could find the actual data?

i think the styling is main reason. Radical departure from last gen design that in the MMC was a huge hit. Dealers are asking Honda for help with incentives. I will be honest the front looks buck tooth and the sedan coupe fastback design is not for everyone. And the back looks bit like the Civic. Let’s hope they don’t screw up the next TLX.

A big dealer near me is showing almost 200 2.0T Accords in stock. When sales are terrible again this month, supply cannot be blamed. The car is simply pretty bad looking. It reminds me of the problem Honda had with the ugly 2003 Accord. In 2001, with the older model, the Accord was the best selling car in America. Starting in 2002 (when the 2003 model was released), it lost the crown to the Camry, and was never again the best selling car.

^^ The '03 Accord was a big styling change and not for everyone. But that car, and its successors, went on to become a legendary generation of the Accord. Great gas mileage and performance, high quality interiors, never-say-die reliability (we have put 300K on two of them, one an '03 that saw 203K with nary a problem (until an unfortunate teenage driving decision did it in) and an '06 our son drives that has close to 100K). Those cars were put through their paces and performed like champs. When it met its untimely end, our '03 was still worth nearly 6K, according to State Farm. Not bad for a car with an OTD price of 20K eleven years prior.

I always thought the 03-07 Accord sold like hot cakes. They were everywhere. The interior was a big step up over the 6th gen.

I saw five different new Accords one day this week (an outlier number seen). One was a Touring Edition that slid by me in the left lane, so I saw the front fender first. It's a really athletic-looking car from that angle. And I still think it looks a whole lot better in person than in pictures. Much more attractive to my eyes than its primary competition (Camry ).
#399
I agree. The car looks really good when seen up close. Even the often ridiculed tail lights look good when they're in operation, The Camry in comparison is flashy while the Accord is quiet handsome. For now folks are going for flash, but I have no doubt Accord sales will eventually pickup.
